Eric uM'yeni Wam...

Oh I have such a crush on Eric Miyeni (nee Myeni). It's one of those that won’t go away, like the one I still have on Hlomla. I listen to Eric on SA-Fm (Eric M After Dark) and I find him so intriguing. Gosh he’s got all the qualities I want in a man, he’s handsome, versatile, well spoken, opinionated, passionate and sometimes stubborn. On the show he comes off as nonchalant, like throw anything at me and I can handle it – and boy can he. Some people say he’s an angry black man, I just think he feels strongly about a lot of issues. In his own words I’m not angry, says Eric. But the one thing that sets me off is unfairness and people who are unfair” I decided to research him, and write about him, in case there was anyone else who feels him as much as I do.

Eric is an accomplished actor, radio show host, business man and publisher (or is it author). He’s starred in Molo Fish, Bopha as well as Cry the Beloved Country. He had a short stint on (or is it at) SA-Fm in 2004 where he was fired after 4 months. The reasons were that he was a time bomb – he had too many surprises on the show (which were unwelcome by management) His argument was that how can you have a live show without an element of surprise, how then do you keep it interesting? Basically SABC wanted to regulate him, and he was not having that. But he’s back at SA-fm, I wonder on whose terms?

Hmmm Hmmm Hmmm....shem jsut looking at him DOES it for me...

Eric has also written two books – the highly successful O’Mandingo! The Only Black at the Dinner Party – I loved this book. Everyone needs to have a copy. Click here for one of his thought provoking articles. His second book is O’Mandingo! Before Mandela was Mandela. Has anyone read it? What did you think?

Eric is also a partner and the creative director of communications company, Chillibush.

He seems to be a solid black man, one I’d be proud to take to my mama. I can’t seem to find anything on his love life; I’ve heard a rumour that he was/is dating a white chick. If that is true…all I can say is “Such talent, wasted”

Good play on words there D.

i love his voice and i think that's where it ends. I don't know what happened to him but pre-SAFM, the books, the chatshow, he was a cool guy.

Where did he go to school? Where does he live? What does he drive? Just joking!!

Dimags as far as i know he is not seeing anyone at the moment .

@ GodsArt, I heard that rumour years ago when he owned that poetry place at Timesquare. I think its BS, yes he hangs out with gay guys but it doesnt mean he is sleeping with them.
All the gay people that have said he is an after 9 have never seen him in action.

GodsArt
17 Oct 2008 12:10

@ Ngwana - if your man starts frequenting gay clubs without you, would you just say he is hanging out with the guys? No wonder most gals are blind sided by their so called gay boyfriends.

I used to really like Eric, until the day he asked me after I waitered on him how much he would have to tip me for me to come with the meal.
I could have taken it lightly and just been happy he looked at me, but I was mad dissapointed, so I uncrushed. Not every waitress wants to bag a celebrity, dammit!
Btw, his second book is crap, the first one was ok.

Remember people don't have to pay tips hey..U must tell that to the cashiers @ the licence department, they take the 'tip' nge nkani :(

Dipsy
04 Nov 2008 15:07

Most restaurants dont pay their stuff because they make so much on Tips. At Primi, where it happened, we got paid 1% of total sales. Which basically meant you will make your wages on Tips.

Think of it like this. the restaurant sells food. But the convenience of someone bringing it to you, and the making sure you have everything else you need from time to time is the extra service you pay for by tipping.

Then Dipsy, in Layman's terms, what you're saying is,we have to tip cashiers at Pick'n Pay for packing our groceries because Pick'nPay sells groceries, packing it is optional.
We have to tip petrol attendants because petrol stations sell petrol, filling it in your tank is an added service.
I hear you Dipsy...tough times we live in hey.

The difference with the situation you bring up is that Pick and Pay (not sure about garages, but I tip anyways) actually pays cashiers a wages that doesnt assume they get tips from you, so you can not pay with a clear conscience whereas with waiters...you are taking away what the employer assumes they get anyways.

Its not the most fair of situations because it only works under the assumption of you generousity. If you look at European countries, they do what the exclusive restaurants in SA do..include it on the bill, hence you get waitering being regarded as a proffesion.

I feel sorry for ppl who have to waiter as a means of putting food on the table eMzansi because SA folk dont tip.

i don't tip if i don't receive what i deem to be extraordinary service. i don't get this convenience you're referring to Dipsy if the restaurant doesn't give me the option to collect my food myself from the kitchen. Frankly, i'd rather that was the norm cause i don't trust waitrons not to fiddle with my food.

I always say people apply for the jobs they're in and they went in with knowledge that they get paid off tips so surely they should know that there's a chance someone may not tip as it's optional?

Without customers, there wouldn't be food to sell so who's being done a favour by patron coming in for a meal? I should be tipped for bringing in business!

He can't be gay, maybe bi.  I saw him a few nights ago in melville.  This gorgeous chick I have seeing a couple times walked in came into the bar.  eric was there.  It was obvious they knew each other cos she and the guy she came in with went straight to talk to him.  When the guy went to get a drink, Eric kissed her right there in full public view and i am not talking a butterfly kiss, it was a passionate one, actually it was two.  Man, i was jealous, she's hot and no, she's not white. They left soon after that...can you imagine what followed....

i so agree this man is one of those you can not get over, one thing about him is his arrogance on his show is so sexy. i also cant seem to find out much about his personal life but i do know one thing he always hangs out in melville and rosebank......and he is keen on the ladies so i dont think the white is doing a good job!
