How's this for crazy "whoa!" news. Sony Entertainment TV's just announced that they've got The Amazing Race 12 and they're premiering it on Friday, 5th September at 20h00.

Of course as soon as I got sniff of it I was on the blower scooping out as much as I could about what it all means - most importantly: will 13 follow directly after?? Has SABC3 lost the rights to the show??

As you know, we've just seen Season 10 on SABC3 and we're expecting to be seeing Season 11 at some distant point in the future - probs after another annoying Apprentice interruption that'll put us even further behind the US, who premiere Season 13 in September.

Here's what I found out:

SABC3 definitely have the rights to Season 11.
SET can't confirm if they've got Season 13 and will release news soon.
SABC3 think they've got Season 12 but are unsure and haven't confirmed.

I don't know exactly how such things work but what I've heard is that when a show gets sold, it has a signed-in clause that says two broadcast platforms can't air the same season of a show within a specified timeframe of each other e.g. - they can't broadcast the same season within a year or 18 months of it having been on a different broadcaster.

As I say this is what I've heard the standard practice is for other shows so I don't know if it'll apply to this but it could, which makes the future of TAR on SABC3 look very shakey . If such a thing applies, it means Season 12 might have to be held back until well into 2010, if it's even been sold to 3.

All in all it's good news for DStv subscribers but not for those without unfort.

I'll keep you in the race as soon as I hear more.

Lol, SABC should secure 13 then,if SET hasnt, and if they have, they must secure 14...hai, that wont work, still leaves SABC 3 viewers out for a while...geez.

DSTV should take all the god shows fromSABC that way we will be guranteed to see themsopner.Look at heroes. Season 3 is about to start in the us in september and we are still waiting for season 2 to play on sabc 3.thats just bad bad bad

Pls Rene think about it coz TV does not get better than that, once you secure that flippin installation fee the rest is manageable. SABC 3 viewers will probably see TAR 13 in 2013 coz if SET scores it then Rene & Toxy are screwed LOL!.

SABC3 think they've got Season 12 but are unsure and haven't confirmed. whatever! Its either you do or dont and no in between.

Well as a DSTV subscriber I am simply bouncing with joy, can't wait. I feel for the SABC viewers, this would certainly suck, or maybe its just what the SABC needs, give them a good kick in the behind to get them to air shows the viewers really want to see and soon too.

Why is SET playing newish shows now???? Mmmmmm hmoi thought their strategy was to resurrect the old classins like The A Team, Designing Woman and Fresh prince of BelAir??? Good news all the same...I'm looking fwd to seing both season running at the same time.

That's what I thought. All along I've been fast forwarding past this channel because of their line up. I guess I must once in a while start watching this channel to see what's new.

I dont think they'll even view this as a bummer on their part and dissapointment to their viewers they will just dish whatever useless stuff they can acquire with our R225's.

Hau Cngle, you gave Tox tips? Nami ngiyawafuna! As long as they are above board, and have no hint of shadiness. How much is it anyway, coz i saw the decoder is R389 at House and Home, installation shoud be around R400, right?

Rene i live in an area of shadiness (yeoville) so i did everything by the book for a change and got an agency (in Edenvale) that I saw on the DSTV website . Made a booking via phone, EFT'd em and 2 days later they came with everything to install for R1149, coz i wouldn't know what to buy and where to buy if i had gone the buy decoder separately route.

my tip to Toxy was the mogodisano route.

heheheheh, Rene we must find 5 other people that don't ahve dstv and the way we'll do is that each month we contribute R200 to the installation fee-after that each to his/her own.
Is there a way of paying an annual fee for the subsciption??? I'm really terrible with monthly payments!

R200 are you mad? that's my modisano for soap/crockery and cutlery mos.that's too little guys.

Go for R500 at least 3-4 people should give u money and you be the 5th person so that when u install u have the first month's payment upfront so that by the end of first month they dont double-debit your account. Tox u will do a debit order dear so u dont physically go to the bank to pay.

R1149 cnglma? Yho I'm pleasantly suprised I always though I was looking @ 4grand.

I also need to make a plan and fast but I don't like the migodisoanos where all the money goes to one person cause of the stories I've heard about people disappearing with other peeps money. I'd rather we open a bank acc and then all get the moola @ the same time.

Golden star, the best mogodisano tip i can give u is to godisana with the cleaners; drivers and the tea ladies in the office as those people never resign from their jobs and they are the best to deal with. Don’t godisana with your close workmates as you will have the problems you are scared of.

If you pay a year's subscriprion you only pay for 11 months and the 12th month is for free. If you pay on a monthly bases, there is no discount.

Haaayaa guys I'm jealous now...... I'm stuck here in Zim and hearing all this subscription talk is killing me.

Wish I could also take part in the mogodisano thingy. Anyone out there willing to except Z$6,000,000,000,000 (that's meant to be 6 trillion Zim dollars...hope I've put enough zeros)....LOL, LOL, LOL!!!! I can only laugh, otherwise the stress will kill me!

Believe it or not that's equivalent to the R300 for mogodi.

@Rene and my Twin.....watch out for "free installations from Makro,Pick n Pay Hyper and some of these furniture stores....Cngle....you were very lucky to pay R1400,and a friend of mine was even luckier by buying a decoder and plugin it in to the wall socket as their complex had installation points already

An update: SABC3's confirmed that they've defnitely got Season 11 through to 13.

No news yet when they're gonna be on or of The Apprentice is still going to Roadblock things in between.
