Coloured se voet man

I've noticed a worry trend among our so called Black diamonds, BET tv enthusiasts and "pseudo political-intellectuals" that we are now referring to each other as "people of colour". Black people or Africans or whatever you want to call us have now suddendly appropriated the title for themselves. From sports journalist refering to a need of  "more people of colour in the springbok set up".  To incest letter writers telling Barry Ronger he hates anything with 'people of colour" in it because he thought "Why did I get married" was a pap movie.

Since when does one having alot of milanin ( the thing n the skin that give us pigmentation) define you "as a person of colour". Why is it caucasians,or white people or whatever you want to call them and oriental,Indian folks do not qualify? Are the less colourful, hehehehe.

I mean of all the worst phrases to appropriate we go and appropriate a term that was used by cotton and sugar farm slave owners, used to subjugate black people.  They are as dark as night therefore they are a people of colour and we are white, and it ends there. A term of subjugation. Used to inflict a sense that you are other wordly or very different from the norm. Not a term that came from the group but was placed upon them by someone else.

Whats next we are going to go and appropriate 'nigger', 'kaffir', 'bitches' and 'ho'. Oh I forgot we've already done that too in mzansi. "Hey if im a black guy calling another darkie a nigger, it does not mean anything, nah mean" ,please someone call clark kent people, we need to be saved.

This whole thing of using deragotory terms and actually freely applying them onto ourselves, espicially the 'imported' ones, is really worrying. Where we don't even know where the words originate and the history of the particulae word(s). Really makes me wonder where is our self esteem, our dignity and self respect. How long are we going to continue to live and exist as "the other" and not just be. Why be a 'nigger' when you can be a person, why be a "dawg" when you can be a man. Why call your lady friend a 'ho" instead of her name? Why be a person of colour if you can be an African, a South African , a Motswana a Zulu etc. Cause I saw it on tv, I heard it on radio or thats what the hip and happening people are doing these days. Kana what do they say, give a dog a bad name....

When I first heard the term "People of colour", I had to wonder which race was being referred to. I found it particularly hard to determine, as whichever way I looked at it, I did not understand why a particular race would be considered to have "colour", and another not. Hence I had to succumb to reading to explain to me which race was being reffered to as "People of colour", as it did not make logical sense to me.

Anyway, nice article Tha-bang! I think though that people generally have/had issues with using the term "black" in official business, or on radio and stuff, and so they wanted something else.

he-he-he Thabang venting!

This whole thing of using deragotory terms and actually freely applying them onto ourselves, espicially the 'imported' ones, is really worrying. Mmh i just cannot finish a conversation without using a swear word amongst close peers. Sometimes it just feels if my words are not accompanied by some form of a derogatory term they wont show much emphasis & importance. I am very flexible though coz my language tone changes for different situations.

How long are we going to continue to live and exist as "the other" and not just be.

tlotsa keng, hobaning i understand the rest of the sentence (he has the audacity to ......., a lion with lip ice)

I dont see anything wrong with refering to another black person as "nigga", i have a saying that goes like "take the stones that people use to assult you, and build ur house with them", meaning the whites used "nigro to discriminate against us, but we took that word, shaped it to "perfection" and use it as a term, to show "freindliness, humanity and a strong bond between the previously discriminated", now if u look at it, whose the fool.

Also we cannot change the past, neither can we cry about it (we have cried enough), the best is if we just laugh about it.

why be a "dawg" when you can be a man. I would agree with u, if ur statement was, why be a "dawg" when you can be a ndoda/ monna, baba, bhuti.coz u sound like you telling me not 2 use colgate but sue aquafresh, at the end of teh day its still toothpaste, (hence dawg and person=english)

I am however against being called a person of colour. Or if lekgoa otla mo nna and start calling me a "NIG", i wud slap him faster tahn he can say RO

thats my 2c worth, ayt ma niggaz.

Cody kwa kwa kwa you make my morning
thabang im with you, this calling names is just lack of self esteem, people always blame people for their problems they dont want to take responsibility.

white people they always reliable not all of them, the only thing they can do ,they will tell you let the best men win.

US.US Hm,we always want to cheat, this kafir, nigger,ho,i think people must grow up n educate them self,Esp we black people if we  take diversity management course we should  be able communicate globally without any problem,

along we cheat, disrespect our brothers n sisters, nothing will be better,n worse part we dont want to work

as for the nigga thing it does not fly with me,but to each his/her way
