Legal Matters

Being a shattered mega fan of the Alley Macbeal show, when it ended every legal show just sucked. THEN a month ago a friend introduced me to Boston Legal and now I walk around saying my name “Denny Crane” like a mad cow!

Boston legal crew
Crane, Poole and Schmidt Employees

I have annoyed every single person in my life (Sorry King K) since I saw the first episode of the legal show Boston Legal about a month ago. I have sat through two entire seasons of the show and am ploughing through the third season now. I have missed every single show that I adored and vowed to support (note the past tense) such as Desperate Housewives and Ugugu no Andile because I can’t get enough of Alan Shore and Denny Crane.

David E Kelley
James Spader(Alan Shore) and David E. Kelley

The lawyers and antics at the Crane, Poole & Schmidt firm are thrilling; the cases they take on are shocking! It is astounding how David E. Kelly comes up with such excellent storylines. Where in the hell does he get the scriptwriters? How do they come up with the cases? Or is America just that crazy? What inspires them to think of ways that just seem too far-fetched to work for the fan and keep us coming back?

I saw a small snippet of some fo sho show about legal matters, and me of little faith started getting really worried. In the hope that Shugs will get invited to the launch and will drag me along I did not even bother getting the name of the show. Will it be as fascinating to watch as most legal shows? Will they try to tell our stories and not Americanized stories? Will the court scenes and proceedings be mzansi style? Will the lawyers be convincing or will I forever feel like they are acting?

If this show is already on, just tell me when it is is on and what and who to watch out for? I do not mind switching off my Boston Legal DVD to watch a local legal Mzansi show!

@kick-s....no we not there yet...if they could get scriptwriters from The Lab and some well groomed actors then we can start comparing ourselves with them

I also loved Clarens(sp), that guy who pretends to be a woman.Yo that man can act.

Mzansi-- We are rated 1 of the countries that have the highest criminal rates mara the stories doesnt reflect that @ all. Maybe basaba ukuthi we will "monkey see monkey do 10 times"??

Boston Legal ROCKS. Ok, now that that's out of the way, I have to say, Sokhulu and Partners started with a lot of promise, I was all for it. But I think they lost it with the casting of the non-regular actors, they go from bad to worse, week in week out, making the show a bit dull to watch.
Also, it's become a bit predictable, we know the one brother will fight with the other coz of the case he takes which brings in no money, every time!

No, I think the show (Sokhulu and partners) is not that bad. I have stopped watching chick flick on Thursday to make sure that I dont miss an episode. The actors render good performances and when they present their cases one goes through the emotions that they feel and I forget that I am just watching TV.

Sego what do I do to get a glimpse of my favorite actor (James Spader)? it was a sad for me when the practice ended and they had just introduced Danny Crain just after they had blessed us with James Spader on the last season. I cannot have DSTV for now but is there a Boston Legal box in stores and how much?I love James Spader wholeheartedly and i was asking about him sometime this week on another blog. The money I am saving for the WIll & Grace DVD box will go to the Boston Legal DVD box.

Sego America is generally a "far fetched" country, hence its "far fetched" stories on Boston Legal....

I am an attorney by profession and Sokhulu and Partners is one of the best dramas depicting almost what happens in in our south african courts. The story lines in SP are not fictional, they are all based on actual cases which were heard at the Constitutional Court. SP is more educational and  what you see on SP is the actual legal standing applicable in SA. It is a good show but the end is always so anticlimax as I know of the judgements in the cases they are portraying and the outcome thereof, so when Mabutho and his partners prepares to go to court I know whether they are going to win or lose the case.

SP could tell what happens in our courts but they dont do it well.....i just switch channels after 3min of watching....scriptwriters is what they need

I'm always anti FoSho productions....but Sokhulu and Partners, its ok...I watched a few episodes and loved all of them. Nothing can get to Bostobn Legal standards in SA context yet but dang it it very good...(all relatively speaking)
