Site Errors: Update

Dear TVSA Readers

If you've been visiting the site this week you may well have experienced slow page loading and timeout errors, particularly today (Wednesday 28 May).

The problem causing this has nothing to do with TVSA itself - the problem is the SQL server our database is hosted on, which is stretched to its capacity. TVSA is growing daily and our traffic has reached such huge proportions that the site is now largely responsible for the massive strain being placed on the SQL server.

Our hosts are in the process of setting up a new server, but it may still be a few days until this is complete. As soon as we can move the database to a new server the timeouts will go away.

In the meantime, our hands are tied. Our hosts are looking at solutions to try and ease the strain on the server, but you may still experience timeout errors and slow page loading.

To anyone who posts replies on the blogs or other articles - please be sure to copy your message before you post it, so that if the page times out you can go back and repost without losing anything.

If you do get a timeout or error, a refresh will usually force the page to load properly.

We offer our sincerest apologies for the inconvenience - like you we hope the problem will be resolved as soon as possible.

The TVSA Team

Update: 06h48

We have been monitoring the site since midnight, and the errors appear to have disappeared. We're holding thumbs that it's a permanent fix.

pse use a db server that has big capacity like MySQL or MS SQL Server 2000, this is not acceptable.
