Off-Topic Double Reloaded

OFF TOPIC DOUBLE RELOADED

I would like to firstly say thank you to Carino for providing me with the Double Reloaded title. I have also realised that it has become difficult to access the Off-Topic Reloaded article and a fresh start is needed.

Am I the only one that thinks that the Mzansi Not-So-Sho Ngamla short stories are just not interesting? I actually like the concept of programmes that incorporate oNgamula since SABC1 has neglected that market. Do you enjoy the short stories on Mondays at 20:30 and if not what do you think is missing from them? *BTW, yesterday I saw abelungu bekikiza yesterday on the show (someone please provide the English term for this); now what I would like to know is was that real or was it faked?*

I sometimes have the tendency to overlook certain things until someone or some people draw my attention to it. I am saying this in reference to the new Frisco advert. When I first saw the ad I made a decision not to find it offensive, so I told myself the ad was okay. But ever since last week I find it very offensive because I haven’t came across a black person that still slurps their coffee or tea like it is done in the ad in the past ten years and I feel that’s it’s wrong to be perceived in that manner. Bloggers please tell me what are your thoughts about this advert?

I didn’t get an opportunity to watch LIVE this past Friday so I’d like to know has Touch improved his presenting skills and has Bonang calmed down or usanguphaphiyosi? *Oh and Carino, what was it that you wanted to say about Touch’s starched shirts and him losing sponsorship for them, uthini?*

This Off-Topic is more of a concern. I would really be impressed if our “beloved” local soap GeneRubbish would reflect the diversity of our beautiful country. Now I am Zulu *yeah yeah niyazi……LOL* but somehow I find it unfair what Bab’Vundla is doing when we have eleven beautiful languages yet whenever a person is to speak a language that’s neither English nor their home language, the language they speak will definitely be Zulu. For instance the Shabane’s (Dumisane & Bridgette) are Xhosa speaking and that was a perfect opportunity to have people speaking Xhosa *since vele uAjex is already making a mockery of it…….LOL* But instead the Shabane’s speak XoZulu (that is Zulu with a Xhosa accent).
I really don’t understand because even when Kenny Mash and Karabo speak isiZulu you can hear that it’s torture for them, so why force it? I believe that there are enough Zulu speaking people on Generations and why aren’t they learning other languages? Why doesn’t Paul, Ntombi, Khethiwe, Sbudah, S’bari or even Samuel rock Sesotho for a change? Hayi mani, this is not on, what do you guys think about this?

Oh and am I the only one that absolutely cannot stand the Brand Power *helping you buy better* adverts? yerrrrrrrr………..

For now I’ll leave it there. Feel free to say all your Off-Topics here guys and have a fantabulous day.

"You just forgot to give props to Sbu Mpongose on the Zulu bit."

The Frisco ad is offensive so is the Chicken Licken one.  What i have noticed is that when they make an ad targeted to the black market it becomes so uncreative, dull and stupid.

I watched Ciara's video "Promise" for the first time this past weekend and i'm thinking that those kind of videos should not be shown on SABC.

felfel
27 May 2008 01:05

Ain't isht changed on LIVE, Touch is still ugly, still needs a good stylist, his voice is still good for radio and guess what ...I was watching with a foreign male friend on friday and he actually said first that this guy is just not good on TV overall, i threw my hands up cos i hadn't shared my concerns to him before and he just saw it for himself....so there!!!!

As for the Frisco ads, don't be too sensitive about it, I don't think its meant to stereotype bleks, it could have been chinese or monkeys slurping that coffee....but u looking at it in ur way......

As for Generations, there's a blog for it somewhere, for plp who want to share their Generubbish issues & concerns....

And i hate those Brand Power adverts too, does that lady speak like that at home???????

Weiss
27 May 2008 01:08

But ever since last week I find it very offensive because I haven’t came across a black person that still slurps their coffee or tea like it is done in the ad in the past ten years and I feel that’s it’s wrong to be perceived in that manner. Ja! I know they exagarating that. But I used to that - especially when I'm alone (and used to get irritated when I have to drink coffee when someone is around) but I'm stopping that bad habit.

This is nice one, Nonny.

27 May 2008 01:11

Done!!!!

"galfriend where's ma essay?"
@ Vutmi, ur essay is on it's way, Carino is still doing a spell check on it!

"What i have noticed is that when they make an ad targeted to the black market it becomes so uncreative, dull and stupid."
U can say that again Mathaz!

"Ain't isht changed on LIVE, Touch is still ugly, still needs a good stylist"

Nice one Nonny-gal

about Monday and Wed short drama ... i know it ia Africa month and they are trying to show us drama from all of Africa but they bore me to such an extend that i havent been able to watch the whole drama ... same goes for Live

LOL @frisco advert ...i just change the channel whenever that advert plays ...cant stand that  slurps thinging ....but i dont thing it is about how black do it rather about the difference between slurping other coffees other than frisco ...dont ask me the difference though

gene and the language ... Sbu, the former Move Editor raise the very same point ... maybe Zulu is easy after all, or it is dominating in our society hence everybody tries it. which reminds me ...i once heard Sbuda trying to speak Zotho(Sotho in Zulu accent ..and i prayed to God that he doesnt try it again!) ...and one day Sam wasnt in a gud mood(i think it was during Sindi days), he went to Ezweni and Queen saw that he(Sam) wasnt in a good space and said  "O siame Sam" and he said  "Ngisiyame Queen ngizohlala kanjani ngingabi siyame" ...you i couldnt help my self bt laugh, that goes to show how ignorant we can be of other languages

I love you for this topic Nonsta. Something's been bugging the hell out of me, have not been sure which platform to use. What the hell in the kingdom of dogs is up with this Faith Mngomezulu, Vuyo Mokoena's so called confidante, family friend or whatever.....one would swear that she IS the wife the way she has been going on about how she did this and that for Vuyo in his last days. What killed me was when she said that Vuyo had requested that she and the 'husband' take care of his son when he passes on because Tebogo the wife is young and can re-marry. I can only imagine how it feels like to be a Vuyo's widow at this point in time, seating on the matress, grieving the passing on of  your husband, while another woman (family friend or not) is using the opportunity as her moment to shine, telling the whole world about her last moments with your husband. Granted, she might have been giving Vuyo mouth to mouth when he passed on, she might have taken him out of hospital at his request without the hospital permission, but does she really have to spill all this details out to the whole world, more especially at such critical time to the family, what is she really trying to achieve and how is that helping the family. If it were to perhaps raise funds for Vuyo's bills I'd understand. I just hate the way she chooses to never say anything about the wife, except that Vuyo said she could re-marry. Hayi I feel like dying each time I see her name on the papers, she just reminds me of the late Zombo's sister....Mara why?????
Excuse me for such a long one ma-bloggers

I mean when she just lost her husband and now she wants her to loose her baby to her, hayi mani that's wrong and mean, akananzalo yini yena?????

ANOTHER OFF TOPIC - Guys, I wasn't impressed when I read the Daily News Late Edition on Wednesday 21 May. How can u say: JAVAS, ARE U HIV POSITIVE? Either than the fact that that is none of ur business, but did the interviewer have to ask that as the first question considering the state of health that Jabu from Malaika is in?

Zola once mentioned this issue of the so called "Black Adverts", even on Billboards elokshini you only see  Omo, Joko, Frisco, KFC,Grandpa, Cuticura, Lemon Lite etc, but come to the suburbs you will see boards of Laptops, cell phones, investment companies. I think the marketing world is telling us that black folks don't need to know about investing and google search cell fones.

27 May 2008 02:19

speaking of offensive ads...i don't normally get offended but was highly put off by this nando's ad on radio...something about 2 guys drooling over "thighs" and how good they look and the one guy screams to the woman he'd like a piece of that thigh and she goes hey wena get one for yourself...something like that. i understand puns and all of that but i found the whole thing to be just tasteless...so dissappointed with nando's!

offtopic, my phone's fell into the water 2x already. first time i let it out to dry and it was fine. this time i blow dried it and it was fine. but now i find i have to blowdry it every coupla days otherwise the screen just isn't visible (expect for the light)...is this bad for the phone? ofcos it's bad but i mean what else can i do? it's a N70 and another thing...that phone's  very low on memory (bathong!) so i bought a mem stick (2 gig) but don't know how to change settings so everything gets saved onto the memory card...every time i get an sms or try to send one or try and take a pic it tells me cannot perform action as mem is low and i need to delete...someone pls help!!!

What do u guys think of cellfone contracts for the less fancy fones which come with a freebie like a 72cm TV or Ipod etc....???
When i do the calculations, it depends on the fone value whether u really are getting the freebie for free or not, other times its kinda like getting the freebie on account and its already included in the cost.

I took a K700 on Vodacom for R135/month and insured it with them, total every month was around R200. Two weeks before i was due for an upgrade my fone was stolen at a party, i claimed and got the K800i, cancelled my contract and converted my number to prepaid and haven't looked back since.

Neway the reason I am here guys, I wanted to know if I am the one who is dissapointed in uGugu noAndile. I mean I know it was a bit naïve of me to think that SABC1 was gonna have a production that of the caliber of Entabeni & Izingane Zobaba series after series. Kodwa ke I expected better and NO it's not becuase of Gugu squint eyes & Andile's malnourished look, but nje the entire programme just didn't do it for me. Not even umam Dephney's acting skills were impressive, shem ngiphoxekile!!!

I was also very dissappointed and also thought of Abakwazidenge when watching the episode. THe whole AbaThembu fighting with the other tribe and girl & boy caught in the middle - each from the one tribe. Dissappointing indeed and it looked like it was filmed aabout 10 years ago. The hairstyles and clothing was also a flop..

04 Jun 2008 02:55

i thought the idea of setting it in Thokoza in 1992, was a brilliant idea.exploiting the tensions that were there back then.yes renegade b4 1994 elections things were very hectic.
but i think the production quality was not up to scratch,so was the casting and the writing. the story lacked tension or drama, even the poetic scenes such as the one towards the end with the famous "o romeo whereforth art thou" scene  was written and played out so badly i almost laughed at how bad it was.
Plus i think all the shows so far have been suffering from padding, whereby some scenes are stretched out so that the show can fit into the miniseries format they are going for.
hopefully next week's episode is an improvement.

I've been trying to get through to this article for the past hour already...

heeee....uGugu noAndile was a mock to South Africanism. I mean, with all the Xenophobia that's going on already, why now are we put through the trauma of whatching such????....

The minute the black screen showed "Year 1993: South Africa about to have first independent elections"

I gave a disappointed sigh... not that again! I mean, dont we have any other stories to tell??? And I started chanell hopping.

The window scene and the two roses... Pathetic, pathetic, pathetic....

The guy that burned the house... pathetic...

uMiss eskolweni...

umama ka Gugu....

kuloAndile... that small child made me laugh....

And if this is how Romeo & Juliet is, I wonder how Julius Caesar would be.... oh my gaaawwwdd and Hamlet would be set in Robben Island.

I'm afraid but the ladder of this whole Shakespear Festival is going one direction only and that is downwards... I mean... Entabeni was BRILLIANT!!!!!

Dear Sugar
(Not Brown Sugar)

Time and ability plus double capacity has forced my pen to dance automatically on this benedicted sheet of paper. Why! this miraculous thing happened is because papie I love you spontaneously and as I stand horizontal to the wall and perpendicular to the ground I only think of you, since you are a fantastic and fabulous guy.

Papie please Stop haranguing with the feelings in my heart because I love you more than a snake loves rat. To me each day starts by thinking of you and ends by dreaming of you. Each time I see you my metabolism suddenly stops and my peristalsis goes in reverse gear, My medular-oblangata also stops functioning.

Crazy crazy crazy you may say but this is true. If only you knew what is going on in my encephalon you would understand. That's why I need to see you face to face with you, soon. I think I have to pen-off here because I still haven't finished studying electrolysis and polymerization. Catch you pa- later. Sleep tight and don't let those bed bugs ever bite you coz you are too sweet a thing for them.

did anyone go to Mbalula's Farewell & belated birthday party...last saturday

my gosh politicians, they actually came with long prepared speeches, around 11:30 were still istening to speeches, dinner was served around that time

the new youth league president is Mbalula's replica, that young man talks too much....it was a saturday nite and it was supposed to be a party, the guy tortured us with an hour long if not more of a speech..

cnglmother, petrol has gone incredibly high, if you used to spend R250 full tank on a corsa lite, it's now R420, after yesterday's increase it's more...

however, i prefer charging the same amount that the person would have spent kwi public transport. I'll ask how much they spend a day, multiply that.

but I must say Petrol is a pain and those who don't havev cars in most cases take it for granted...yet a tax driver won't even allow you to his taxi without paying even if 10 of you are going to the same place...but in a car people just take it for granted that , uya la engiya khona or it on your way...

I've noticed something with the US election race, how the candidate's families become an important part of the campaign, even kids and wife or husband learn to do the 'wave' to the followers (like your red carpet celebbrity wave)..the candidate has to be seen hugging, caressing his wife and family in public-I suppose family good values are important...

It's like if you are not a family man, americans do not even consider you..

and we accept JZ with his football team of wives and we complaign when our men cheat, with Jacob Zuma as a role model....I say we have a long way to go...

The lady was not aware that me & Zim guy are paying R600, now she regrets telling me coz ever since that day I have issues with the fee and she's scared i might slip up and tell KVR about her next to nothing fee she was paying.

Shame the Zim guy even offered to pay the R150 I am refusing to pay as he will miss my sex talk in the car and jokes. He just went quite all the way to work when i said i am going back to taxis. We all work for the same company BTW so its still awkard bumping into each in the office passages.

Guess she is thinking about the KVR that they are going to disable should she lose me. Quickly girls what do i say, its gonna be awkard in the car for me coz i refused to pay, what am i gonna chat about. I am so scarred girls.

Awesto trust me there is no shagging going on just abusing a conservative foreign; not so streetwise; chriastiano-raised man who think women were born to be showered with gifts and money.

Miss K stop it now, its so wrong what you are doing, ugly people have feelings too. Like Toxy said imagine if roles were reversed. Its like your boyfriend being ashamed of you coz you come from a poor background or dont have educated and posh parents. Kabelo Ngakanes need love too. I am sure that man has the most beautifull personality & manners just lacking in the looks department. And he will be devastated if he would find out about this.

I did'nt see the first story coz i was watching Muvhango so i only saw the second one and i could'nt help it but to cry  and MaRose's story was touchy guys.More especially when she found out that her father died five yrs ago if i remeber correctly.

@ Hlehle, mina I didn't feel any sympathy for that wheel chair lady, when life was good to her, she never bothered to find her family and now that she is literally and figuratively useless to them she wants to be their burden. Mina if that was my mother I was gonna take her to a granny's home *just for the fact that she is my mom after all*........kodwa ke thereafter I would only come to see her once just to fetch her body and bury her with tyhe most minimum level of dignity when she has passed away........*yeah yeah this goes a bit deeper than KK for me........mximmmmmmm bladdy parasite (I am still talking about the wheelchair mums)!!!!*

Oh and that bank cards granny was a total ripper for me, shem and u can just see the poor boy listens to whatever granny grey say.....eheheheh

Toxy it was very interesting, KVR cnglma-nosed, telling me how sorry she  was when i had depression 2years ago. She was a bit grumpy this morning dont know if its to do with me or over unemployed-hubby. Me travelling with them means happy Zim guy, and happy Zim guy means more cameras to KVR and the KVR wont be disabled.

Zim told me she was proud of me for telling the truth, he also feels that way but there is nothing he can do coz its his team leader and it will make his job uncomfortable should he not go with the programme. So he's gonna pay R750.

Posh ngiyabonga for the not-backing down spirit but i almost took the R650 offer thinking of ikhaza la ngaphandle. I just have to get rid of Andi01 in me, she's hard to live with. off to lunch.

Hawu Nonny......! uMaRose MO-DI-SE was really looking baad shem. I think it was even sadder that she left her home all those years ago and then comes back in a wheelchair when her family was probably thinkin she's making money wherever she was.

Her children seeing thier mother like that was heartbreaking and how her daughter recognised her even before she said who she was.

I was so happy when I saw MaRose's sister *not her children* being a bit distant, u could tell she was just being patient with her irresponsible sister just for the sake of ipapazzi phela people respect ama camera. Nami I was gonna do the same and the moment KK people leave I would sit her down *oopsie just remembered she's already seated*........neway I would say: "Lalela la u left and things me with ur kids and I took care of them and OUR mother, and now we must take care of u when u walked and never looked back until now, well tomorrow u are leaving to a home for people that have patience to care for abantu abanjengawe, mina for now I will concertrate on the kids u left and forgot and my loving mother!!!!"

And when she heard about her fathers death and she started crying i was like "damn if you called home or even wrote a letter you would have know about your fathers death"

Okay all in all i think the male nurse was too damn cute although sengathi he's not a man man (eish wat a waste *sniff sniff*)

Those were his bank cards. Ugogo didn't want the boy to use his money to buy his mother anything while on his visit. Gogo just pretended they were her cards when she said smthng like, "bengimthume imali" . LMAO, just thinking about her!!

@ Nonny n Mambox - i was also thinking the same thing, if she was still on her own two feet she still wouldnt have thought of going back home.  Now that someone must take care of her o khumbulekhaya, ahgg man.  Now she wants to cry when people have died, what was she thinking, that they'll wait for her to come back home and then die? Nonsense man....How do u just up and go and leave ur family behind and get lekker mdavazo e durbs n forget all about family and children that u left behind? I thought only men did that!!!!

Even my hubby thought the male nurse was kinda cute....i just thought he was young!

siskromkrom somakhulu esiya, did u see her putting her hand over her mouth xa ebiza lamacardi so the others couldnt hear what she was saying. But then lomakhulu raised this boy to be a man by herself and she cant allow uvuk' engceni adl' imali' yomntanakhe. I had a bit of a problem with the tones of the boys mother & aunt. Yho they were a bit rude - & if there were troubles between the parents of the boy that led to the mother not seeing her son for years - it certainly isnt her fault. They werent asking & didnt say thank you to the old lady for being there for this boy all along. the other woman obehleli next to ugogo - i thought she was sick or something. She kept quiet all along and only said a word once there was an agreement at the end.

One more thing, ugogo kept on saying uba bayakwenqabela ubuy' uze khaya, ngizothini mina, as if she was talking about a 10 year old boy - tyhini this boy must learn to speak out for himself
