is it me or is the genral working class out to make the country look bad from the taxi drivers, to the guys in alex killing foreigners to people supporting zuma,to the ever stopping strikes at the 2010 stadiums.like u know with the whole kill the immigrant thing thats happening ,its mostly done by working class folks.then theres the badly mannered anc candidates at conferences who throw water missiles and show off their bums, again mostly working class.
Then there is the ill mannered taxi drivers, also from a working class background, then theres a huge groundswell support for mr.showerhead also from the working class group.Im not saying that the middle classes and the so called rich are better human beings. but whats up with working class always using violence or foul means to make a point.
Are people saying, its that bad in SA, that the only way to show your unhappyness is by killing a foreigner, the only way to preach modesty is by beating up someone who you think is not dressed modestly, the only way to make sure the trains come on time is by torching up the stations?
I think given the high rate of unemployment, illetracy and intolerance, its very dangerous to have a huge pool of working class group that does not believe in democratic and constitutional ideals.More to the fact, its one thing not to believe in the ideals but to actually go out and harm someone irrespective of the law and common decency.thats something else.but if im wrong please let me know.

hmmm - food for thought. i think it's about power -its not that the middle class are any more refined or decent than working class folks, i think  that it comes from the fact that the working class feel like no one ever listens to them, so if they do crazy things, in your face stunts, then they get noticed, people pay attention - things get done/resolved.

of course this doesn't excuse craziness like the xenophobic attacks in alex, and now diepsloot, or the brutality at the taxi ranks in bree - but it is true that our government doesn't have a great record of catering for and communicating with the poorest of the poor...so they go crazy, act buckwild and figure that maybe that'll get some attention, something done - and voila - look, they're on front pages, government ministers are all up in their faces, people are looking to resolve the issues....

aluta continua...

Eish....working class is an appropriate terminology to use...
According to Wikipedia : Working class " typically refers to a section of society dependent on physical labor, especially when remunerated with an hourly wage. " So in that sense I get what you're saying but before I went to wiki, I was kinda lost....

Ayi mina I'm confused more by the lack of punctuation and sentence consruction. I couldn't finish reading to try and make sense out of the article. Ngiyabona it's contagious since Sweety my baby never used a single capital letter.
Anyway thanx SMB you got me to understand what Lets get touchy is on about..

Ok, now I read it slowly.....as if I'm listening to you speaking Lets get touchy. You made a valid point hey?
think this whole behaviour goes back home. As in how people are brought up and what happens in the larger area of their brains. This behaviour starts in primary school age. The naughty, lazy child who can't cope in class because of the living conditions at home(abuse, alcoholic parent, etc). The teacher picks on him/her and makes the kid the laugh of the class instead of helping him/her. They become slow, fail but make it to high school. No one can understand them so they do the worst thing to get attention. They bully other kids, steal, rape, burn schools.

Through that whole macho, "everyone hear me out" behaviour they get attention.
> If I don't get my way I boycott....... Dad would stay away from home if he was angry at mama.
If something is not accomplishing what I need it for I break it or burn it......Dad broke the windows/doors at home if he was locked outside.
> If someone does something they like but makes me uncomfortable I must humiliate them....Mama/papa would embarass each other or the kids in public(hangout the linens by shouting in the view of neighbours) eg. "Monna o mokana o rotela dikobo!"

The killing of foreigners? I have no idea where it comes from. It's just utter foolishness. Like I said most of their brain matter is not used or trained to think like normal people. These are your "I wake up,go to work, come home, eat, sleep, wake up....." They don't read much(unless ke Sun Paper), don't get to solve problems at work(even the anc candies). They mostly do routine type of work everyday. It's frustration which they never get to think about because they don't think life has no limits. They don't believe in competition. Take the carwash guy and replace him with someone else. Who is he gonna approach and deal with and how? Why?

Geez...that was long.
