After a somewhat long break from recapping, this week I was not willing to let anything deter me for the oh so important task that lay ahead. And so with the finger on keyboard, I set out to start writing.
This episode, as many others, did not disappoint.
Story 1
In the first story, we meet Macebi Simelani from Kaalfontein. Macebi comes from a family of 8 girls, 3 boys. Two of her elder sisters, Lindiwe and Nurse don’t get along, which is a situation that has prompted Macebi to write to enlist the services of KK.
Although Macebi is not sure when the beef started, she can approximate it to date back to 1995, while her father was alive (he died in 1996). From what Macebi knows, the reason the two sisters are locked in a feud is…3 guesses…a man. The man in this case being Lindiwe’s husband. Apparently, Lindiwe’s husband told Nurse that “unemizwa”. i.e.,he likes her(Somethings just need to be said in zulu). And inevitably that’s where the issue started. The brother in law in question did not intervene to sort out the issue.
When we meet Lindiwe, she speaks of how she has been trying to get past her feud with her sister. In telling her side of the story, she tells of how there was a friendship between her sister and husband that she was not comfortable with.
Lindiwe expressed this to both her sister and her husband, thus opening a door to a feud that has lasted to this day.
Lindiwe
Having heard Lindiwe’s side, Nurse gets a chance to narrate her side of the story. She says Lindiwe accused her of sleeping with her husband. However, she denies this, saying that her brother in law told her that “uyam halela” (another one of those to be said in zulu). For those not familiar with Shaka’s toungue, Nurse basically says her brother in law told her he lusts after her, in a “I want to sleep with you” kind of way.
Nurse
Now, Lindiwe is currently pregnant, this being her third pregnancy. Her first two children passed away. Nurse admits that she wished Lindiwe would never have a child, so that she’d go to a sangoma and have the sangoma tell her that her infertility is because of the ill feelings harboured by her sister,Nurse. In that way Lindiwe would be forced to fix the issue between them. But now that two of Lindiwe’s children have passed on, Nurse cant help but feel responsible.
Also, Nurse has dreams that oblige her to perform some sort of ritual on Lindiwe each time she falls pregnant.
Having heard both sisters, the team sets off to Driefontein, where we meet the rest of the family. Their mother shares with us the struggles she went through raising 11 children while their father was not working. One of her wishes for her children was that they stick together, come what may, and she is thus in pain when she sees the conflict between offspring. She also tells us that its not only Lindiwe and Nurse that don’t get along, but generally all her children have issues with each other.
Once all are gathered, the issues at hand are discussed. Lindiwe confirms what I’ve been thinking all long, that they don’t get along coz there’s just too many of them. I think that’s natural, but ofcourse, there are exceptions. But my opinion is not important here. Anyway, Lindiwe and Nurse’s issue is discussed, as it is the reason for the TV coverage the Simelane’s are getting. Nurse talks about her guilt over the passing of Lindiwe’s children, but explains that her wish was that she never conceives at all, not that her children die.
The older brother also highlights the fact that the fighting in the family happens amongs the girls, as is to be expected with women, which I thought was a funny comment. Anyway, in the end, Nurse “apologized”, and was forgiven by Lindiwe. As a sign of their agreement to come to a point of peace, they feed each other “molotha”, - ashes to those more familiar with the queens language. And I true KK style, the two hug, and to spice things up, the family breaks out in song.
Story 2
The second story is one those “
I saw you in the photos shown at the end of KK” stories. I find that I quite like these after the Wilson Bilankulu fiasco(loyal KK fans will know what I’m talking about, to those who don’t, lets just call it a case of mistaken identity).
In this story, the man in the photo is John Zitha, who left home in 1993 telling his brother he is going for work in Klerksdorp. He has not been seen since. John lives with his wife Elsie, and what seems to be their child. I say “seems to be”, because there was a woman holding a child, but John didn’t mention a child.
John explains that he got to Klerksdorp and worked in a mine, which closed down, leaving him unemployed. He struggled to find employment, and was therefore not in a position to go home as he had no money.(Which I think is crap, if you can eat, you can go home, and Andile agrees with me, but like I said, this is not time for my opinions).
Elias is John’s brother, who wrote to KK to find one of his 31 siblings (hehe, their father had 3 wives). Now, to me, this was just a normal story, until Elias told us that John left behind two daughters, then aged 4 years and 6 months respectively, and their mother. This was the main motivation for Elias to write to KK.
When the two brothers are united, Elias in visibly excited to see his long lost brother, and the feeling is mutual. He explains his money situation and how that was the reason he never came home. Elias then informs him that his oldest daughter has made him a grandfather, and suggests that they go and see them.
Elias
Two brothers reunitedWe also meet Alice before John gets to, who tells us of her hard upbringing, as her mother was ill, and money was always scarce. She says she is not doing well at school, and that she would go out with guys so they would give her money and that’s how she ended up pregnant.
AliceWhen Elias and John arrive at (Lets call it Alice’s home), they are greeted by cousin’s. John meets his daughters, who seem to harbour no ill feelings. My classic moment of the show then comes when their mother comes out, and one the cousins says…”here is you husband”, eish, I laughed.
John then continues to give his money shortage excuse, and promises to put money in a bank account every month from now on. With such a promise, all are happy, and Andile expresses her hope that John will indeed honour his promise and do right by his children.
And like that the show comes to an end.
And sadly, this week there were no photo's at the end.
