SABC1's music show Jam Alley will be introducing a new hip and hopping rhyme-off reality segment entitled Versus as from Friday 2 May, 2008.

Hosted by television and radio host Tebogo “Proverb” Thekiso, the four minute segment will pit Mzansi’s aspiring MC’s against each other in a battle for the title of being the country's next most-sizzling MC.

Versus is divided into 3 segments. The first one - Pass On The Mic - will require participating MC’s to pick-up lyrically from where the previous one left off.

In the second segment - Word - the competing MC’s get a topic, subject or word and have to spontaneously construct a rhyme.

The last and final segment is called Can I Kick It. During this segment the MC’s will be requested to state - in rhyme - why they believe they deserve to be Mzanzi’s next biggest MC.

The eventual winner of the competition will win a recording contract with a leading independent record label and will have their album produced by a prominent hip hop producer, with the possibility of featuring a leading hip hop artist on their debut album.

To be part of the competition, aspiring MC’s can sms 34 222 with these details:
- the tagline VS
- your name, ID number and home town.

Once you've SMS'ed you'll be provided with details of the auditioning process.

Dates of regional auditions are as follows:

Free State - Friday 28 March 2008
Durban - Friday 25 April 2008
Eastern Cape - Friday 23 May 2008
Gauteng - Friday 13 June 2008
North West - Friday 18 July 2008
Western Cape - Friday 08 August 2008
Finals (Gauteng) - Friday 26 September 2008

Versus starts on Jam Alley on Friday 2 May 2008 at 18h30.

i appreciate what jam alley is trying to do..but you guys need to be more organised and say that the competition is only for unprevilaged guys who's vocabulary aint good at all..a rapper needs to pronounce hes words properly so that listeners can hear them and understand what he is rapping about..i entered your competition an i was only given like 6 seconds to rap on a lame beat that i couldnt even feel or atleast trying to feel..everyone else was given atleast 20 seconds to do what they do even if they were rapping crap or looking like non rappers..i'm not racist but the minute u guys saw me you already new your answer and when a black guy walked on u guys smile or stop whatever u are doing just to listen that is very unfair..i dont wana be only as big as cape town or SA,I wanna be as big as the world or a 50 cent or even a loyiso..so please you have to change your attitude that u guys have if hip hop music were to ever change in our country..
