Bay of plenty?Seskhona? Campus Connection? I'm in shock. Anyway, why does SABC 3 insist on playing Oprah at 4pm. Most ppl who would normally watch it are not back at that time, and the repeat is on too late for the working class...i'm sure those number would change if they changed the time.

Looking at SABC 1 figures it has the highest audiences and in terms of revenue generated etv still tops. Why is that? As for XXX movies on etv, what age group will be watching those movies?

Looking at SABC 1 figures it has the highest audiences and in terms of revenue generated etv still tops. Why is that? it's called clever scheduling look at the commercial space on e, very seldom you see promo's and most of their ad slots are sold out if you look closely most of their ads spaces.   As for XXX movies on etv, what age group will be watching those movies? bored people obviously over 18's but well if parents are irresponsible their kids will watch, it;s all about instilling values to ure kids then they wont go looking for ish.

This is my personal opinion from what I observe. Dont ask

XXX is an action movie starring Vin Diesel which was shown on e-tv's Sunday prime time slot. It's not an adult movie.

@Tizoz
Agreed. What I do not understand is why the audiences that watch SABC 3 are so low? Is there a problem with the transmission of SABC 3 in some parts of RSA or is it a language issue? To me their programming is always tops during prime time. That is from 19h00 to 22h00.

As for XXX movies on etv - Realist

I think they mean the movie starring Vin Diesel that was on that week... I do agree with you regarding the late night movies though! LOL

@ Irene and Devilgirl
Correction noted and accepted. No offense to those who watched the XXX starring Vin Diesel.

either way people love vin diesel as much as Anaconda raked in the highest ratings. I would never watch it again but people seem to love it.

SABC 3 is geared towards the higher LSM and that's why they have a niche audience. if you look at their programming. A person sitting at Ulundi and they have never been exposed to anything but that environment would never watch The Apprentice, Desperate housewives or Noeleen, but would rather watch Zola 7 and Zone 14.

Another issue I have with SABC1 is for some reason they kill their movies I dont know what they do but I just cant watch a movie on S1, if they can play Taxi or dreamgirls trust me you aint going to enjoy it at all.

Have to agree with you on the SABC 1 thing. On the SABC 3 and their targeted audiences, would you agree that  the SABC 1 quality of content is below par? For me personnaly there is nothing worth watching on SABC 1, except the soccer which I watch with the sound on mute.

SABC 2, hardly watch it except the news and am live if I happen to wake up early. Wonder how many Afrikaans viewers are watching this channel.

Etv, only watch news and wrestling and to some extend 3rd degree. The ads on this channel drives me nuts.

From 20:00 to 20:30 on Sunday evening, M-Net lost 77,200 viewers who put thier Televisions off after Shrek The Halls aired, most of which were probally under 18 and not allowed to watch the Sunday Night Feature, Borat.

Addison kicked ass and after half a million adverts- which paid off, Private Practice was the most watched International Show of the week for M-Net pulling in, 289,500 viewers!

The season finale of Brothers & Sisters kinda peaked with a good audience rating!

The War At Home meanwhile hit it up with it's Season Finale drawing in one of the largest numbers for an international series on the channel, while viewers still blindly by the Million and a half, are watching Days of our Lives on SABC 3!

On the SABC 3 and their targeted audiences, would you agree that the SABC 1 quality of content is below par? yes S1's content is not one of the gretest it is produced for the mass market. look at shows like Jika maJika and tell me that a person watching Top Billing would want to watch the dance show on S1. that channel is made of cheap content and the quality is not a big issue.

SABC 2, hardly watch it except the news and am live if I happen to wake up early. Wonder how many Afrikaans viewers are watching this channel. You will be amazed at how big the afrikaans market watching S2 is! those are the people pushing up S2's ratings through the roof if it were not for them that channel would have shut down by now.

13 Feb 2008 12:53

@ Bra Bizza: Seconded!!!!!!!

@ Realist: These figures indicate that there are a lot of Afrikaans people watching SABC2! Look at Pasella, Fokus, Afrikaans News, Noot vir Noot, 50/50!

Top Game Shows, how can Noot vir Noot be both number 1 and number 3?

Why are the "2 million" DSTV subscribers not watching Mnet shows? What are they watching?

Bra Bizza
13 Feb 2008 13:23

Why are the "2 million" DSTV subscribers not watching Mnet shows? What are they watching?...i think it all boils down to the market....dont forget we've got an unemployment rate of around 16%(i stand to be corrected)so the "free channels" are likely to be watched more, than a person like you who gets home after pushing a minimum of 10 hours in the office and by the time you get home you watch a selected few and blogg on TVSA and etc etc etc....

realist

@ Brown Shuga
Partly agree with your reasoning. My problem though is the SABC 1 and SABC 2 their quality of content is below par. Why don't they up their ante and match those shows that are shown on SABC 3.

This gives the notion that the two channels, only target the rural communities hence those numbers.

On the 50/50 and fokus on SABC 2 I would say the quality of those programmes are tops.

The 2 million subscribers on DSTV: Does it include the compact, the rest of the african continent and the vodacom package ? If it does you can't really say much about the quality of the content on those packages.

Compact caters mostly those that like to watch SS3 and channel O. Vodacom package those that are interested in watching Kyk net. Would you agree?

My problem with SABC 1 and 2 management is this, their mentality of saying they represent the masses therefore the quality of programming is of no importance.

@Tizoz
Impressive, much appreciated.

Brown Shuga:
>Top Game Shows, how can Noot vir Noot be both number 1 and number 3? <

Noot vir Noot was on twice during the week, on Tuesday and Friday (I have no idea why).  The Tuesday show had more views than the Friday one.

>Why are the "2 million" DSTV subscribers not watching Mnet shows? What are they watching?<

They could be watching the M-Net shows, but if they're watching them through the dish and not a standard M-Net decoder then they won't register on these figures as the technology used can't pick up which DSTV channel you're watching.
