The Miss Teen USA pageant was created in 1983 as a sister pageant to the Miss USA system. The first pageant was held in 1983 the pageant's viewership peak was hit in 1988, when the pageant averaged over 22 million viewers on CBS. Even as recently as 1999, the show managed to bring in over 10 million viewers. The 2006 airing was the second lowest rated in the pageant's 23-year history, with only 5.6 million viewers watching the live broadcast (the lowest: 2004, with 5.34 million).

Miss USA
On: Monday 10 December at 20h30
Repeated on: Sunday 16 December at 15h00

Held every year since 1952, the glitz and glam of the Miss USA pageant even has a cherry on top as the winners get to compete for the Miss Universe title! Every year, each state holds a preliminary competition to choose their delegate for the Miss USA Pageant. In some states (such as Texas and Florida), local pageants are also held to determine delegates for the state competition. Invariably some states have performed better at Miss USA than others, with Texas being the most successful.

Miss Universe
On:
Monday 17 December at 20h30

Owned by Donald Trump, The Miss Universe Pageant is held over a two week period in May and July, and is among the most prestigious international female beauty contests. According to the organizers, the Miss Universe contest is more than a beauty pageant: women having aspirations to become Miss Universe must be intelligent, well-mannered and cultured. Often a candidate has lost because she did not have a good answer during the question responses rounds; although this section of competition has held less importance during recent pageants than it did in the twentieth century. Delegates also participate in swimsuit and evening gown competitions.

Scream Awards
On: 24 December at 20h30
Repeated on: 30 December at 15h00

The Scream Awards is the first Award Ceremony dedicated to horror, sci-fi and the fantasy genre. Hosted by Rose McGowan, Marley Shelton and Rosario Dawson. Decked out in a black carpet with performances by Chemical Romance and KoЯn the Scream Awards pay tribute to genres that are often overlooked at the main prestigious award ceremonies.

The categories include: The Ultimate Scream, Best Horror Movie, Best Fantasy Movie, Most Memorable Mutilation (and the contenders included: stabbed in a pit of syringes, Saw II) and Most Vile Villain.

The big award of the night: The "Holy Sh!t"/"Jump-From-Your-Seat" Award - its contenders include:
- The eye removal scene from Hostel
- Alien pods emerge from the Earth from War of the Worlds
- The diner shootout from A History of Violence
- The Space Shuttle/Boeng 777 rescue from Superman Returns
- The train sequence from Batman Begins

Some trivia: Paris Hilton makes an appearance to present an award clad in a dark widow-style outfit. While she receives some cheers, they're overpowered by booing that last throughout her speech.

American Music Awards
A re-run of this years ceremony
On:
31 December at 20h30
Repeated on:
6 January, 2008 at 15h00

Created by Dick Clark in 1973 to compete with the Grammy’s, the American Music Awards have grown in popularity over the years. While the Grammy’s are based on votes by members of the entertainment industry, the AMA’s are determined by a poll of music buyers.

Perhaps the most controversial incident of the AMA’s was when they instituted a Faviourite Artist of the Year in 1996, which was awarded to Garth Brooks. Brooks gave a short speech essentially saying he didn’t deserve the award as he’d done nothing that year and he left it at the podium. The category was discontinued.

New Shows
As you'll see they've all either been on go before or they've been on other M-Net channels:

Six Degrees
Premiere date: Tuesday, 4 December at 19h30

It's said that six people separate one person from another. Laura, a grieving single mother, begins the chain. Then to Whtney, the self-made success story who thinks her boyfriend is cheating. Move on to Steven, the artist/photographer who believes he's lost his 'eye.' Follow with Damian, who can't escape his criminal brother's shadow. Then to Mae, who has a dangerous past. And finally to Carlos, the good guy with a crush who doesn't know what he's in for. These six strangers go about their lives not realizing the impact they're having on each other - yet.

Dirt
Premiere date: Tuesday 4 December at 21h30

Courtenay Cox stars as Lucy Spiller, the hard-driving Editor-In-Chief of the tabloid magazines Drrt and Now. Lucy has a maniacal dedication to finding the truth, for reasons even she has yet to fully fathom. With the help of Don Konkey (Ian Hart), a schizophrenic paparazzo blessed with a genius for getting the money shot, Lucy exposes the hidden truth behind celebrity lives -- and also determines their fate.

Degrassi
Premiere date: Friday 14 December at 11h00
Degrassi is about a group of 8th to 12th graders at Degrassi Community School. Kids at DCS deal with all kinds of issues including sex, drugs, dating, rape, abortion, sexuality, oral sex, religion and eating disorders.

The Nine
Premiere date: Friday 14 December at 14h00

As nine strangers do their business at a Los Angeles bank one fateful morning, two men lock the doors, pull out guns and announce a bank robbery that will "only take five minutes." But it soon becomes clear that the heist has gone terribly wrong.

This character-based drama uses flashbacks to unravel the mystery of what transpired during the 52-hour hostage situation. But the heart of the series is how that harrowing experience has impacted the present-day lives of the key characters as the nine continue to intertwine, deepen and complicate their connections to one another.

The Class
Premiere date: Monday 17 December at 16h30 - it replaces Home & Away while the show's on Hiatus.

An overeager romantic hosts the ultimate surprise party for his fiancée: a reunion of their third-grade classmates to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the day they met. Although the party turns out to be a disaster, the lives of the eight attendees remain inextricably bound together from that day forward.

Long-dormant feelings are rekindled as each of the classmates reunites with the grown-up versions of the little kids they remember. Now that they're reacquainted, these eight unique individuals find their lives continuing to intersect in surprising new ways.

Old connections are discovered, new ones are made and from that night on, none of their lives will ever be the same.
