On 3rd Degree tonight:

Episode: Table Mountain Under Siege
Broadcast date: 6 November, 2007

Table Mountain, the emblem of Cape Town, is under siege. The mountain has been the crime scene for 22 attacks this year, leaving residents and tourists alike afraid to walk on its slopes and enjoy its scenic beauty.

This week on 3rd Degree, we investigate whether the crime that has the city gripped in fear, is spilling onto the mountain and what steps can be taken to alleviate the problem. We ask the authorities what they are doing to beef up security on our mountains, and have the attacks really abated?

Table Mountain is an icon of our Mother City. It is visited by 4 million people a year and is Cape Town’s biggest tourist attraction making a major contribution to the city’s economic coffers. As the summer season approaches and millions of locals and visitors flock to its slopes, we ask is the mountain safe?

It's about time someone investigated what's gonna be done about security - the situation's ludicrous - when you phone the tourism department even they tell you it's not safe on the mountain and Signal Hill - which is obviously what they're telling tourists.

The thing that I don't agree with though is the show saying the city's gripped in crime and that it's spreading to Table Mountain 'cos it's not at all - it gives a very wrong impression of what's happening in Cape Town. There are areas that have a lot of crime but there are also lots of areas that aren't overrun with crime - where you don't feel you need to think about it all the time so to suggest it's seeping over onto the mountain's just being sensationalist and unrealistic.

My personnal point of views is to plot SADF camp not unreliable police force because, this is going to paint  or put our country in a dark shade for-instance  we are going to host the bigest tonarment in the world but if the level of crime is still in this rage, i am afraid.
