I’m sure most of you received this E-mail yesterday “Warning for Gauteng”

The South African Weather Services has issued a high importance warning for Gauteng regarding serious storms today (8 October 2007).
In the interest of your health and safety, you should avoid traveling between 18:00 and 20:00 this evening.
Strong winds (about 25-30km/h) are expected, mainly in the north-east Gauteng. Heavy rainfall of about 3mm per hour should affect the south-east.

Businesses closed down and some people went home as early as 1pm (Including Me). The traffic was hectic….

What puzzles me is that, the SABC was aware of the prank and did nothing about it.
How do u feel about pranks which are life threatening?

I got a mail correcting the statement yesterday. What was SABC supposed to do, they even said it on the news in the evening that it was not true.

Here is the e-mail that corrected the rumours:-

Wild sms and email rumours are doing the rounds that Gauteng WILL be hit by severe thunderstorms and/or tornadoes this afternoon and evening. 


These rumours are wildly exaggerated.


The correct warning


The thunderstorms are expected to develop over Gauteng later today and yes, there is a warning issued that one or two of the storms may become severe, generating strong surface winds in some places. The exact area that will be affected can only be identified once the storm has started developing using weather radar. This imply that such an area will be known within an hour prior to the occurrence of severe thunderstorm


However, this is only a RISK that one or two storms may become severe, and certainly no guarantee. Also note that the SA Weather Service has said nothing about tornadoes and hurricanes!


Updated forecasts will be available on the South African Weather Service website: www.weathersa.co.za.

Yho!! clearly none of you guys did Geography...LOL, i just looked at the clouds and saw that there was no way such a storm was gonna come. 

What annoyed me is that I get to work early so that i could leave early and miss the traffic but when i left  work the traffic was at it's worst... Hhay' suka! these people and their pranks must stop now.

I saw it on SABC 2 this morning and the weather guy said " Shame on the person who sent the email".

Leanne said she started praying because she thought she wouldnt make it till the next morning and started thinking about the "millenium warnings"

Yho Guys rember kids who used to play pranks about bomb scares in school...They never got away with it... they arrested their ass...Rember the girl who sent any email about Zam and Nkensi's HIV statutus?
