I met one of the funniest TVSA bloggers over the weekend and i've never been so in awe of a person's beauty. She's one of those people that find a way to say what we're thinking but don't have the guts to voice out or in this case, type out and happens to be that rare combination of beauty and brains!
We met at a cosy little coffee store in Cape Town--one of those long streets and I was introduced to Egyptian coffee! We then went over to a listening session with Take 6 and I saw for the first time what true love is...XC is in love with one of the band members he he he.
T: Thank you for agreeing to meet with me XC and for making me feel so short by coming in dressed in those stilletos! Anyway, please tell me how you first came across TVSA?
XC: I was Googling something in June this year, (maybe Sis Ribs? Not sure) and a link led me to tvsa by chance. (chance?) And I’ve been hooked ever since!
T: What were your first impressions of the site?
XC: I was like, what is this? I had no idea we had a site like this in Mzantsi, and was really impressed. I registered immediately!
T: What were you like in high school?
XC: The only subjects I was brilliant at were Art, History and English. I slept in the rest of the classes. I was part of the Arts & Culture group, and the school choir (I love singing) I had one school book that I used for all classes (delibarately)
In my school bag, I always carried a copy of the Constitution
(huh!), a library book, and my art-kit. And one school book. In my school, there was like, 15 students in each grade, and everyone knew everyone.
T: Where did you spend the greater part of your childhood and what’s your favourite childhood memory?
XC: King William’s Town in the Eastern Cape. I have many memories of blissful innocence, joys and sorrows, friendships, love…
T: What is your fashion style and do you ever mix and match (i.e buy very cheap clothing and match with expensive items)?
XC: I’m a regular at second-hand stores and stalls. I have a collection of bags, cravats
(what on earth is this?), brooches, blouses from the 20’s onwards. I then mix my finds with modern designer-gear. I like quirky, unusual stuff, but also classic lines, good fabrics, patterns…man, I just love clothes!
T: What is it with Xhosa people that makes them instantly bond due to them being Xhosa? And what is it with any Xhosa person in the public eye representing all Xhosa people or the Eastern Cape? Is it a sense of pride in being Xhosa or is it something else?
XC: Xhosas are very proud people. We are often criticized as being too into our own language and culture that we don’t want to accommodate other tribes. Many Xhosas come from the E.Cape or the Western Cape, so they represent those places. The E.Cape is where the real Xhosa is spoken, not the Ajax kind. The only celebs that I feel really represent ubuXhosa, yet not making other people feel out of place, or inferior are Vanya and Tando Mangaliso. I don’t pay attention to the rest.
Ohhhkaaay, I guessT: How did u get into modeling and please don’t tell me you were spotted while waiting in a queue for bread in the local spaza shop (cause I’ve heard this so many times I’m beginning to wonder if it’s true)?
Zoom in on the pic, she's the chick in the background
XC: Discovered? Yeah, right. When I came to Cape Town in 1999 I thought, (for some strange reason) why not try my hand at modeling? (the idea of making a quick buck maybe) I got a list of the top, reputable agencies, (you don’t wanna be ripped off) and told myself I’d approach them (and probably get dissed).
The first agency I went to was Storm Model Management, and lucky for me, Archar Head immediately took me in, and got me started. I’m average height (which is short in modeling standards), and am not stick-thin, and as sure as cookies, never made it to the runway. I was with Storm til they closed down. Maybe I will model again one day, and do Domestos adverts or something.
Or maybe replace the brand power lady he he he!T: Are you living your dream? XC: I’ve been immensely blessed, and feel content at this point, but I’m not there yet. Every day is a step closer to the dream…
T: What is an unnecessary evil (i.e if you remove one evil from the world what would it be)?
XC: Pedophiles. Well, the urge that makes them want to become pedophiles.
T: What’s your favourite Thandi Klaasen song (he he he)?
XC: I don’t know one Thandi Klaasen song. Shameful, really.
(yeah..anyone that knows any song from this legend, speak up!)
T: Do you wear All Stars and if so, how many pairs do you own?
XC: Yep, I wear All Stars. I only have two, but would love more.
(please donate TVSA) The product Red ones are the best ‘cause some of the profits are used to buy and distribute ARV’s in Africa.
T: Do you think forks were a necessary invention? I can live without a fork in my life and I’m just wondering if I’m the only person on earth that finds them to be a useless invention?
XC: You’re alone in that one, man! How would I eat my pasta without a fork?
(errrm, u'd gobble it up?)T: Ever been “upgraded” or been the “upgrader”? XC: I get upgraded everyday, man! I have spiritual-upgraders, emotional -upgraders, you know. Those people who truly enrich and fulfill me.
T: Why would you choose an overpriced Woolies pie over their equally overpriced sandwiches?
XC: Have you been spying on me? Whatsup with that? LOL.
Listen, I don’t buy things I can make myself. I can make a sarmie at home at like, no cost, but I can’t bake to save my life! Much like dancing. Or swimming.
Anyway, yeah, I’m a pastry person, and I buy the Woolies pie cause it doesn’t cover you in a zillion crumbs, and the store is clean.
