Episode 2
"The Boone Identity"

Voiceover:
"Putting wizard on your door is like putting up a sign that says 'lunatics welcome.' Not that all my clients are crazy, but they all think I'm a little crazy. They ask me to cast spells, move objects without touching them and, of course, see dead people. Don't get me wrong I can do most of that stuff, but when it comes to dealing with ghosts, lets just say I'd rather get a root canal.

Harry stands in the store with his client Charles Harding trying to sense his dead daughter Lisa. Harry tells him that he's not getting a thing. Charles says he's been sensing his daughter's presence for a whole year. Charles thinks that maybe he just can't let go. Harry tries to reassure him by telling him that it can't be his fault. Harding tells Harry that a man named Gus Boone entered his store and shot his daughter. The police thought that Boone missed the store because there was a jewelry store next door. They believe he panicked and killed Lisa, and then stole something he thought he can sell. Boone stole an engraved Egyptian stone tablet, but the cops found it smashed to pieces in the alley. Charles says that Boone carjacked a guy, and in the struggle the shotgun Boone carried went off and killed Boone.

Harry asks Charles to try to explain to him the feeling he gets when he thinks Lisa is near him. Just as Harry is about to tell him that it could all be in his head because of the trauma he suffered, something happens to him and he sees the night Lisa died through her eyes. He saw Boone shoot him and he flew over the room and crashed in the cupboard.

Harry comes out of his vision to find himself lying on the floor. Harry tells Harding that it's definitely his daughter he's sensing, and that it's not all in his head.

Voiceover:
"Not all have unfinished business. Some are just annoying, especially when the ghost has a thousand years of supernatural knowledge he feels compelled to share, constantly."

Harry is cooking at home with Bob standing nearby questioning him about the way Lisa made herself known to him unbidden and so strongly. Harry asks Bob to check the garlic bread for him, but Bob refuses saying he's not eating. Bob thinks that Lisa may just want some company he offers himself to find her frequency and "chat her up." Harry thinks Lisa wanted him to see what happened, and Harry believes Boone knew what he wanted. He went for the tablet without hesitation. Bob thinks that none of it matters because Boone is dead.

Bob recommends Harry to let her be. Bob then says "Life is pain, and so is dinner, you've burnt your garlic bread." Bob is surprised when Harry doesn't get upset instead he thinks that Lisa won't move on - that she wanted him to see Boone kill her and that something is not right.

Harry goes to Murphy for information on the case, but she can't give him the file.
Harry convinces her to do it and she tells him that he'll have to go downtown.

Dresden talks to Marie in the Records Building. Harry learns that Boone killed Lisa a day after he was released from prison after 5 years. Boone was killed in confrontation with Edward Miller, Chicago's most eligible bachelor.

Voiceover:
"To Chicago's finest, Miller's fateful encounter with Boone was happenstance. To me, there's no such thing as coincidence. I also don't believe in showing up uninvited. But for $500 a day, 2 day minimum, you learn to make exceptions."

Harry goes to Miller's residence and tells him that Harding needs emotional closure and asks for a clearer picture on how Boone died. Miller claims that Boone ambushed him in his company's garage. In turn Miller him him with his briefcase, grabbed the gun, and then Boone pulled the trigger, accidentally killing himself.

Harry wants Miller to demonstrate Boone's death for him using a pool stick as the gun. Miller is reluctant and insists Harry leave. That's when Harry realizes that something is amiss and that Miller is hiding something. Miller leaves for his appointment with a masseuse. As Harry is leaving Miller's house, he passes by the room where Miller's masseuse is waiting for him. When Miller takes off his shirt, Harry notices an Egyptian tattoo on the back of Miller's neck. On his way out, Harry also notices a room with a small statue of Anubis.

Back at his place, Harry discusses his findings with Bob. Bob and Harry think Miller put Boone up to stealing the Lock of Anubis, and when Boone showed up without it Miller killed him. Their only problem seems to be that Miller is fabulously wealthy... he could have bought the tablet if he wanted it that badly.

Murphy visits Harry to tell him that Miller reported that Harry was harassing him. Harry tells Murphy his suspicions about Miller. As Murphy is leaving Harry's place, she cuts herself on his doorknob.

Voiceover:
"Most people would drop it. Right here, right now, no questions asked. Unfortunately, I'm not most people. When someone says STOP, somewhere between my ear and my brain what I hear is full speed ahead."

Harry returns to Charles Harding's store to learn what Harding knows about the Lock of Anubis. Harding tells him he bought it online and that he deals in Internet auctions. Harry asks him if it's possible that Boone bid on it during the auction. Harding replies that it's against the law to sell to prisoners but that one did try - Lucas Saban. Saban was a professor of ancient Egyptian history whose obsessive interest in his work led him to kill a child, mummifying him alive. Just as Harding reveals this information, the computer dies and all the lights go out. In the computer monitor, Lisa's face appears. Harry says to Harding: "I think that was a nudge in the right direction."

Harry visits Saban in prison, and learns that he and Boone were cellmates. Boone protected Saban against other prisoners. Harry sees that Saban has the same tattoo Miller had. When Harry comments on it, Saban answers that he had tattooed Boone himself. Harry cagily replies that he wasn't talking about Boone. Saban tells Harry that he'll tell him why the Lock of Anubis is important if Harry brings him Boone's autopsy photos. When Harry refuses, Saban returns to his cell.

Harry calls Murphy from a public phone to tell her that Boone, Miller, and Saban all have the same tattoo. Murphy is skeptical about Harry's theory that Boone was working with Miller. When she hangs up on him, Harry walks away from the phone, and notices a car approaching with the driver holding a shotgun aimed at him. Harry jumps behind a car just in time to avoid being shot. The shooter fires, smashing bullets through the windows of the car Harry is hiding behind.

At the police station, Harry describes to Murphy what happened. He recalls that the shooter had same equipment as Boone. Harry suspects Miller, but Murphy tells him to drop it because Miller is friends with the chief of police. Harry insists that they have to be connected because all three of them, (Miller, Boone, and Saban) have the same tattoo. Murphy shows him Boone's autopsy photos to show him that Boone didn't have the tattoo. Just when Harry asks her if she can at least ask Miller if he owns a shotgun, Kirmani hands Murphy a file that she says makes things interesting.

Murphy and Harry head to Miller's place because Murphy was ordered to make an official apology on Harry's behavior. Murphy is not exactly pleased with this assignment.

Miller is negotiating with a Las Vegas casino owner, J.T. Bergen, about selling him his collection, including the house. Bergen is coming to Chicago in 6 hours. As soon as he's finished with the conversation, Harry and Murphy ring his doorbell.

Miller opens the door, and Murphy makes an official apology. Miller tries to get rid of them, but Murphy insists. Murphy grows suspicious when Miller's seems on edge. Miller is rude to her, but Murphy is adamant and Miller lets them in.

Once inside, Murphy pulls out Boone's photos from the prison where he has a tattoo on the back of his neck. She confronts Miller about having the same tattoo. Murphy tells him that they found several articles in Boone's belongings detailing Miller's wealth and connections. Murphy accuses Miller of working with Boone to acquire the Lock of Anubis. Unmoved, Miller walks away and asks if they are done. Not to be intimidated, Murphy asks him if he knows why Boone's tattoos were removed before his confrontation with Miller.

Realization striked as Harry finally figured out Miller's scheme. He figures out that Boone's tattoos weren't removed but transferred onto Miller's body... and that Miller is actually Boone!

Caught, Miller pulls out a gun and presses Murphy up against the wall with his left arm pinning her at her chest and the gun pointed at her head. But instead of shooting the female detective, Miller blows his own brains out... and then jumps from his body to Murphy's.

Now possessed by Boone/Miller, Murphy points the gun at Harry and shoots her friend... Harry collapses, presumably dead.

Sometime later. Harry wakes up, alive after all. Believing Harry to be dead, Boone (in Murphy's body) has already fled the scene.

Voiceover:
"Hey! What do you know? I am alive. Saved by one of the tools of the trade. The shield bracelet I inherited from my mother. Thanks mom."

Harry notices Miller lying in the pool of blood. After a bit of investigating, he finds the slip of paper on which Boone wrote the time and place of his meeting with Bergen. Bingo!

Voiceover:
"Dying hadn't changed Gus Boone a bit. He was a thug. An armed robber. When he wanted something he took it. And now he's stolen Murphy's body and I had to get him out before he traded her in for a new model."

Back at his place, Harry collects some of the blood Murphy left when she cut herself on his doorknob. Harry intends to use the blood and a voodoo doll to reach out to Boone by harming Murphy's body. Bob objects to this plan, claiming that it's irresponsible and that it's black magic, and that he can't afford to dabble in black. Harry claims that he needs a way to convince Boone that he can run but not hide. Bob warns him that he runs the risk of alerting the High Council and falling prey to his own dark desires. But Harry knows he has no choice: Boone intends to jump into a Las Vegas tycoon and blow Murphy's brains out in the process. It's either use black magic or lose his friend.

Harry and Bob try to figure out how to get Boone out of Murphy's body without killing her. They come to the conclusion that only one person can help them: Saban.

Harry goes to visit Saban and tells him that he knows about Boone, and that he knows why Saban requested to see Boone's autopsy pictures. He asks Saban if he really wants Boone to live as a Las Vegas
millionaire, while Saban rots in prison. Saban agrees to help.

Saban tells Harry that with the tattoos supplicant, he must place his left hand at the tablet and invoke the will of Anubis, thus enabling him to transfer from his body into anyone else's at the moment of his death. To jump, Boone needs to be in physical contact with his "target", with his left hand on the heart of the new vessel. Saban tells him the only way to stop him is by turning the Lock of Anubis. Armed with this pivotal information, Harry returns to the Records Building for the remains of the Lock of Anubis.

After gaining access to the Lock of Anubis, Harry heads to Hardings place where the two of them reassemble the tablet. As Charles puts the tablet back together Harry calls Boone/Murphy on Murphy's cell and uses the voodoo doll to inflict pain on Murphy/Boone. As he does this, Harry warns Murphy/Boone that he can find him no matter whose body he jumps into, and that he forgot about death magic more than Saban ever knew. Before hanging up, Hary tells him that he'll call him again to tell him what he's planning to do for him next.

Being in a police officer's body is handy. Murphy/Boone calls the police station to trace back the call he/she just received.

Voiceover:
"The final showdown. I kind of like that part. Face the villain, beat the bad guy. It's the waiting beforehand that kills me. Wondering if I'm going to survive, knowing I might not."

While waiting for Boone, Harding asks Harry if he's for real. Harry tells him that he is and that he's been doing it since he was a kid. Boone/Murphy tries to sneak in through the back door, but Harry senses him and uses the voodoo doll to pin him/her to the ground.

He tells Boone that Saban told him how the Lock of Anubis is a two-way street. When Boone says that he destroyed Harry, the wizard replies that "they'll see about that." Harry kneels over Boone/Murphy, and that's when the body jumper summons enough strength to stab Harry in the leg with the knife he/she brought.

Having gained the upper hand, Boone/Murphy punches Harry in the face knocking the wizard out. Boone/Murphy drags Harry to Harding, threatening to kill Harry if Harding doesn't give hand over the lock.

Harding moves away to reveal to Boone/Murphy the lock lying on the table. Boone/Murphy approaches it, and when he's close enough he realizes that it's not the tablet. Just then, Harry rises to his feet. Boone/Murphy grabs Harry with his/her left hand by the throat, but Harry uses the opporunity to grab Boone/Murphy's left hand. Harry yanks the body jumper's hand and places it over his heart... right where he has hidden the lock behind his shirt. When Boone touches the tablet, his soul is pulled out of Murphy's body, and dies... for good this time. As Boone dies, Lisa's ghost appears to watch it. When Boone's soul disappears, Charles noticed his daughter watching him. As she finally moves on she tells her father that she loves him. Harry comforts the man, telling him that it's going to be OK. Charles is understandably overraught, but he has also finally found closure.

Harry's reading is interrupted by Murphy knocking on his door. He limps to the door to let her in. As they sit down, Harry asks her how is she. She admits to him she's on an asked leave but also tells him that the doctors tell her she's fine. Harry tells her that it was "quite a hit to the head" that she took from Miller. Obviously, Murphy has no idea of the events of the past 24 hours.

Murphy shares that she keeps dreaming about Miller. She tells Harry that he's sometimes pretty scary in them, and not so much the other times, but he's "performing" in all of them. Harry acts ignorant when he asks her what she means and she responds :"Like miracles. Weird huh?!" When Murphy says that she feels like Miller blew his brains in front of her, Harry quickly covers. He lies to his friend, telling her that Miller hit her over the head, took him out, and then blew his brains out in private. Later, after regaining consciousness, Harry brought her to his place.

Murphy seems to accept this explanation but makes a request. She asks him to promise her that after that night, when she goes back to work, that he won't lie to her... about anything ever again. Harry appears uncomfortable with her request, as Murphy walks out the door.
