Mentors and judges this season included big names such as Diana Ross, Gwen Stefani, Jennifer Lopez, Olivia Newton-John, Jewel, Tony Bennett, Lulu and Peter Noone.
This season saw a special charity fundraiser called Idol Gives Back. It was aimed at raising awareness and funds to combat poverty in Africa as well as aid those who were affected by Hurricane Katrina.
A special results show featuring celebrities like Rowan Atkinson, Keira Knightley, Hugh Grant, Forest Whitaker, Daniel Radcliffe and Pink was held.
A song-writing competition ran alongside the season. Judges chose twenty of the best entries and the viewers could vote for their favourite nine.
The winning entry was performed by the 2007 Idol at the finale and released as a single.
