The Road to Miss South Africa is a South African reality television series produced by Don't Look Down which charts the progress of the Miss South Africa pageant's semi-finalists for several weeks before the annual pageant, featuring interviews with former Miss South Africa title holders as well as the reveal of the models who will contest the finals.

Season 3 premiered on Mzansi Magic on Sunday 26 January 2014, at 17h30. New episodes broadcast weekly. There are 10 episodes in the third season.

Season 3

In Episode 1, host Elana Afrika peeled back the curtain to the event, beginning with interviews with a host of former Miss South Africa title holders including Melinda Bam, Cindy Nell, Basetsana Kumalo, Kerishnie Naicker and the current Miss SA Marilyn Ramos, who discussed what is was like to win the title.

The cameras then visited the Johannesburg and Cape Town Regional Finals where we met the nervous entrants and heard how they felt about taking part in this prestigious pageant.

On 4 December, 2013 the Miss South Africa semi-finalists were revealed, as were the star-studded panel of judges for the new look 2014 Miss South Africa competition.

The 33 Miss SA semi-finalists vying for the 2014 crown came from around the country – Gauteng had 12 contenders followed by the Western Cape with nine; Kwa-Zulu Natal with five and the Free State and Mpumalanga with two. The Eastern Cape, Limpopo and North West each had one entrant.

They were out to impress the 2014 judges: radio and TV personality Anele Mdoda who returned for a second time as judge; international DJ and recording artist Nkosinathi Innocent Maphumulo, who is better known to his fans as Black Coffee, and magazine editor and style icon, Pnina Fenster.

Regarded as leaders and trend-setters in their respective fields, they were judging contestants on intelligence, leadership, talent, physical fitness and a dedication to community service.

The 12 Miss South Africa finalists were revealed in Episode 2 of The Road to Miss SA and from there they moved to Sun City for a series of challenges and events that tested them in all fields, from cooking to dancing.

The changes to the Miss South Africa Pageant were all part of a concerted drive by Sun International to grow the Miss South Africa brand and make it relevant for today's young generation.

Part of the extensive revamp was that the new Miss South Africa would be crowned in March 2014, instead of December, which meant that unlike previous years she gets to reign in the year of her appointment.

The Road to Miss South Africa was produced by Don't Look Down. The creative and series director was Anton Cloete and the executive producer was Glenn van Loggerenberg. The theme song was "I Know What's On Your Mind", performed by DJ Black Coffee and featuring Tortured Soul.
