Season 1 aired on Comedy Central from 20 February to 27 March, 2013, on Wednesdays at 19h40. New episodes broadcast weekly. There are six episodes in the first season.

Season 1

Comedienne Sarah Silverman, once dubbed "the most outrageously funny woman alive” by Rolling Stone magazine, plays a character with the name of Sarah Silverman in The Sarah Silverman Program, a loosely autobiographical comedy about a self-centred, single, unemployed and self-centred Jewish woman.

Sarah's life, characterised by strange, sometimes unsettling and always hilarious predicaments, is related through an array of scripted scenes and songs, often featuring her sister and her geeky gay neighbours.

Step into the incredible world of Sarah as she goes about her life, which on any given day can include taking in a homeless man, exploring her sexuality or encouraging a young girl to enter a pageant to fulfill her Sarah's childhood dreams.

The Sarah Silverman Program stars Silverman who plays a character (aptly named Sarah Silverman) whose absurd daily life is told through an array of scripted scenes and song.

In each episode, Sarah manages to fall into unique, sometimes unsettling and always hilarious predicaments, with her sister (played by real-life sister Laura Silverman), her geeky gay neighbours, Brian and Steve (Brian Posehn and Steve Agee) and Officer Jay (Jay Johnston) never far from her side.

In the premiere episode, "Officer Jay," Sarah ends up in trouble with the law after drinking (cough syrup) and driving.

While free from jail after Laura and the arresting officer strike up an attraction, Sarah is not free of the jealousy that takes over as she fears she's losing her sister to love.

Back at the apartment building Brian tries, unsuccessfully, to convince his partner Steve that he's actually bi-sexual.

The series is based on an idea by Silverman, Dan Harmon and Rob Schrab. Silverman, Schrab, Heidi Herzon and Dan Sterling are the executive producers. Schrab also served as director of the pilot and several of the episodes.

Gary Mann is the executive in charge of production for Comedy Central.
