CSI: Crime Scene Investigation (also known as CSI: Las Vegas or CSI) is an American police procedural television series created by Anthony E. Zuiker that follows the investigations of a team of Las Vegas forensic scientists as they unveil the circumstances behind mysterious and unusual deaths and other crimes.
The series premiered in the USA on CBS on 6 October, 2000.
CSI originally premiered in South Africa on M-Net on Thursday 23 August 2001, at 19h30. The first four seasons also aired on SABC3 and the show also began airing on DStv's M-Net HD when it became available in 2008. TopTV's Fox FX channel also began airing the series from Season 6 and DStv's Sony Entertainment Television (SONY) channel also picked it up.

Season 12 premiered on M-Net and M-Net HD on Wednesday 1 February 2012, at 21h30. New episodes broadcast weekly. There are 22 episodes in the twelfth season.
Season 12
CSI: Crime Scene Investigation is a fast-paced drama about a team of forensic investigators trained to solve crimes by examining the evidence.
They are on the case 24/7, scouring the scene, collecting the irrefutable evidence and finding the missing pieces that will solve the mystery.
D.B. Russell (Ted Danson), the new CSI Supervisor for the grave shift, comes to the team after heading the Seattle Crime Lab. He's a family man and scientist, but not a nerd.
Son of hippie parents, he's a "Left Coast" Sherlock Holmes who devours crime novels and looks at every crime scene as if it were a story waiting to be told.
Other CSI members include Catherine Willows (Marg Helgenberger in her last season of the show), the team's former supervisor and an investigator with a cop's instinct for reading human behaviour; Nick Stokes (George Eads), the conscience of the team, often driven by his emotional connection to the victim to always get the job done; Sara Sidle (Jorja Fox), aka Mrs. Grissom, the moral compass of the team who is relentless in her pursuit of criminals; Greg Sanders (Eric Szmanda), once an off-beat tech analyst and now an experienced and intuitive crime solver; and Morgan Brody (Elisabeth Harnois), an exile from the Los Angeles Crime Lab and the daughter of Undersheriff Ecklie.
She's a natural born investigator who still has a lot to learn about politics and family.
The CSI team members also work closely with Captain Jim Brass (Paul Guilfoyle), a seasoned detective and protector of CSI, sometimes to a fault; Dr. Albert Robbins (Robert David Hall), the ever-professional medical examiner; his wise-cracking assistant, David Phillips (David Berman); and David Hodges (Wallace Langham), a tech of many talents who often rubs people the wrong way, but never fails to deliver.
Joining the cast mid-season is Julie 'Finn' Finlay (Elisabeth Shue, replacing Marg Helgenberger), a new CSI fresh off an anger management course, amid rumours that D.B. Russell fired her when she worked for him in Seattle.
These are the men and women who work 24/7 to untangle the evidence behind the yellow police lines, piecing together seemingly insignificant puzzle pieces to nail the bad guys and serve those who are most important and sometimes overlooked - the victims.
The CSIs sift through the murders, suicides, robberies and violent crimes that threaten the streets of Las Vegas, on and off the Strip, moving beyond the neon decadence to seediest and deadliest corners of the infamous city in the desert.
"Let the evidence bring justice to the victims and closure to the survivors."
