Season 3
Based on the success of the past two years, Tropika Island of Treasure 3 called for entries to participate in the challenge, where seven winners and seven celebrities compete to win the grand prize of R1 million rand, and the opportunity of becoming a reality TV star.
The exotic island of Phuket, Thailand played host to this year's show.
In the previous competitions on the islands of Mauritius and Zanzibar, it was about contestants pairing with celebrities and sharing the R1-million rand. This year, all of the 14 contestants have an equal chance of walking away with the R1 million.
Each day, contestants participate in a range of fun, exciting, whacky, different and random challenges on the beautiful island of Phuket, Thailand. At the end of each day, the winner has the power to vote out another contestant, who leaves the island to return home.
This year's line up of celebrities include a mix of music, comedy, TV and radio personalities from rock star JR; diva and TV host Bonang Matheba; beauty queen Tatum Keshwar; funnyman Loyiso Gola; (in)famous drama queen Khanyi Mbau; actress Dionne Song, who portrayed Beyonce in the sitcom The Coconuts; to new pop-rock sensation, Snotkop.
Tropika Island of Treasure 3 launched on 1 August 2010 and called for all South Africans to purchase a Tropika drink, see the pack and enter the competition via sms or online. Deadline for entries was 31 October, 2010.
To allow viewers to get to know all the contestants, the show reduced the number of contestants and celebrities this year from 20 to 14 (seven each).
In previous years, contestants had a 1 in 10 chance of winning half a million rand; this year there is a one in 14 chance of winning the R1-million.
