About the Show

The Nanny is an American situation comedy created by Fran Drescher and Peter Marc Jacobson and starring Drescher as Fran Fine, a charming and bubbly Jewish Queens native who casually becomes the pantyhose-clad nanny of three children from the New York upper class.

The series originally aired in the USA on CBS from 3 November, 1993 to 23 June, 1999. There are 146 half-hour episodes in six seasons.

The Nanny originally aired in South Africa on TV1 (which became SABC2 in 1996) from 9 May, 1994 to 1 September, 2001. It later aired on DStv's M-Net Series and Comedy Central channels. See "Seasons" below for seasonal broadcast dates and times.

Season 6 premiered on Comedy Central on Friday 8 February 2013, at 17h10. New episodes broadcast in a double bill daily, on weekdays. There are 22 episodes in the sixth and final season.

Synopsis

Fran Fine, a Jewish woman from Flushing Queens, worked in a bridal shop when her boyfriend kicked her out.

She then became a door-to-door make-up saleslady where she ended up on the doorstep of the Sheffield household.

Maxwell Sheffield (a Broadway producer) took one look at the big haired, nasal voiced woman with her flamboyant flair for fashion and hired her on the spot to be a nanny to his three children, Maggie, Brighton and Gracie.

Nanny Fine brought laughter, warmth and a sense of homeliness to the otherwise somber house after the passing of Mrs Sheffield.

In Nanny Fine, the Sheffields did not only get a nanny, they also got Fran's mother Sylvia, who liked dropping by unannounced and enjoyed stuffing herself, her ditzy friend Val and also her beloved grandmother Yetta, who wanted nothing more than to see her granddaughter married and having babies.

With each passing day, the attraction between Fran and Mr Sheffield grew more and more strongly, much to the delight of nosy butler Niles. Off course Mr Sheffield's partner, CC Babcock was not too happy about the turn of events as she saw herself as the next Mrs Sheffield.

With lots of hilarious situations, funny tongue-in cheek moments, The Nanny proved its popularity which led to many Emmy Award nominations.
