Re: Idols West Africa Rocks!!
Just finished watching this. Love the judges. They're much better than Dave, Gareth, Randall and Mara (buy Sasko). They're not completely fawning and even give the people who do get through to Planet 1 criticism. They're not mean for the sake of being mean either, thought lord knows they had every right to be with some of those singers.
At one point I was worried when the American guy Dan actually uttered the word "dawg" which is bad enough when Randy Jackson keeps saying it, but thankfully it was a one-off thing. He and the other guy with the loud shirt (Dede?) had some priceless facial expressions.
Lot of underdog stories so far. There was the woman who ran the orphanage, the one who had polio, the music producer whose family rejected her and all those crying boys.
My favourite singer in the episode was the orphanage chick. I even forgave her for singing Celine Dion.
The presenter underwhelmed me. The only thing I remember about him was his over-pronunciation of his 'o' sounds which made words like 'loads' sound like he was saying them in a parody of a British accent.

You just had to add that Sasko part, didn't you??
Dede is the drama king of the series, the girl is still kinda shy I think. I got disappointed when they turned down the gal that sang Beyonce's "Stay", I thought she was great.
Did anyone see the Michael Jackson with the red t-shirt? Dang!!
Re: the presenter's accent & pronunciation, don't worry Cloud, you'll get used to it after 2 weeks or so.
Am so glad the judges aren't too much into looks coz we're seeing some horrible fashion statements up in this piece.
Oh dear, am already addicted..this is bad.

Who's that in your avatar, Brown Shuga?
The judges are Dede Mabiaku, Abrewa Nana and Dan Foster.

I'd completely forgotten it was starting today on ch37 DStv (Southern Africa). Did they show the weekly show proper at any stage?

Doop, since you're working on the show , perhaps you can send a message to Nana and tell her to quit saying "watzup" every 2 seconds, I can't bear to hear that ever again.

Re: Idols West Africa Rocks!!
I can't believe I missed the actual show! I promise you I tried and tried to get info about when it was starting last week and not one single person at DStv or M-Net could assist me with scheduling info or knew that it was even starting. Thanks for the lowdown everyone - I caught a couple of the crazies in the open extended auditions and hearing them was like a torturous blast from a helldog past!! At the same time there was something oddly soothing about it.

Re: Idols West Africa Rocks!!
It's quite watchable, I must say. I am hopeless at night, but watch it mostly during the day, in between my fave programmes. It gets a bit monotonous though cos I have seen a few repeats already. ' can't waight for Planet 1

Re: Idols West Africa Rocks!!
I love the auditions. Saw a notice on the channel that, due to popular demand, the auditions will be screened until March 18.
Try as I might, I can't get into the show itself though.
Auditions: Hopeful wannabe singers, some of whom can't sing & very honest and at times funny criticism from the judges. ("You sound like a freaking frog" is my favourite at this stage.) Emotional scenes as the singers get their hopes crushed or move onto planet 1.
VS
Show: Glittered up performances with judges that suddenly lost their edge. Boooring presenter. Even more boring voting procedure takes centre stage.
I tried, but I won't be watching the show itself.
