There's new reality show coming to your TV sceen, well, that's if you have DSTV. It it's called Dans Dans Dans and it will show on Mnet's Kyk net from January 19 at 7.30. It is produced by Grary white Productions.
Auditions took place in the whole of South Africa and about 1000 dancers across the country strut their stuff in front of the judges, one of them being Lorcia Cooper.
I filled the gruesome form on their website and even after i've forgotten that I once filled it, i got a call from the producers, asking me to attend an audition. I went, nervous as I was, and I was selected to be in the Top 100. Lorcia was not too pleased with me because i told them that I was gonna do a "mix-masala" piece -- meaning I would just dance whatever move my bones wanted to do at the time.
She said it was unprofessional and unaceptable for an artist to come to an audition unprepared, but my moves showed her, and the two other judges otherwise. they were all pleased, yes, me Top 100.
We had to go back the next day, the selected 100. The filming still continuing and cameras flashing in front of us all the time. we were adviced to have fun, but i couldn't, my nerves would not let me.
The dancers were divided into two groups. the 50 chose to be tested on hip-hop and jazz, and the other 50 chose latin american and contemporary. I chose the hip-hop first, all though i had never done any jazz before.
Was jazz hard or was it hard?
I even forgot the name of the choreographer...But i made up with hip-hop and guess who the choreographer was: the one and only DIVO -- Somizi, (i'm such a fan, forget thw tabloids -- the guy is amazingly talented) He was cool, i loved him, we even had a little inpirational talk.
then the moment of truth came, we had to combine the two dances in front of the judges, the whole process still being filmed. they captured everything ..the drama, the tears, the joy and all the crazy stuff.
The elimination process -- the judges would just pat someone on the shoulder while on stage and order them to go home. it was really really tough, i mean you are dancing and a girl who's been teaching you the technique outside is ordered to go home and you are looking as this happens, you just lose focus completelly.
The stage was near empty and we went on and on and finally. CUT, i had made it to the top 50. I had made friends with a girl called Tshegofatso, a good dancer from Bloemfontein, she also made it, she cried with disbelief. We had made it to the next level, Top 50, a very long way from 1000 if you ask me.
As if we had not seen enough drama already, the judges had to only remail with 40, so they could cut 20 and be left with 20 then cut 10 and be left with 10 by the end of the weekend. All this took place at joburg, Alexander Theatre in Brammfontein.
they had to cut 10, my ears went deaf as i saw Tshego leave the stage. I just knew that i had to be next, and i was right indeed. Lorcia called my number: 8378, she called it in Afrikaans nogal, Agt drie, seve, agt. "thank you".
My role was played, it was time for me to leave. I was glad more than anything, that i had proven to myself that i had talent. that was my cue.
So ladies and gentlemen, if you loved So youn think you can dance, you'll definatelly love Dans Dans Dans more because Lokkal is Lekker....
