I've tried ... honestly I have but I just can't not get irritated by Charlize Theron.

All the news about Charlize and Sean Penn's Hollymance (Hollywood romance) has been driving me round the twist and I'm relieved because now I know why.

Each time I see a story about it I've felt annoyed and irritated and haven't been sure why but after giving it lots of thought I've realised that it definitely has to do with Charlize's accent and the fact that she doesn't speak in a South African accent when she isn't acting. I keep picturing her speaking in an American accent to Sean Penn.

I've felt the irritation before, tried to get it to stop but it just won't go away. It has to do with the fact that other Hollywood stars who come from other countries speak in their original accents during interviews and so on e.g. Nicole Kidman, Hugh Jackman, Hugh Laurie etc.

I can't get my head around why Charlize doesn't do the same. She still speaks Afrikaans when she visits so has her South African accent really disappeared? Or has she deliberately lost it because she feels she wouldn't be as big a star if she did? No other Hollywood A-lister speaks in a South African accent in real life so is this why she doesn't?

It raises so many questions ... would she be such an A-lister if she did? Would she have achieved the success she has? I'm sure she would have but then I don't understand why she doesn't. Surely it would make her more unique if she did?

I honestly don't know ... what do you think? Would she be such a big star in Hollywood if she spoke in a South African accent?

I always thought I was the only one who was annoyed by her. Can you believe I'm ashamed to claim her as South African because she's ashamed she is. Even the way she pronounces her own name is American, so basically she erased all her Africanness. And I don't think Hollywood made her do it, she felt she wouldn't be accepted. I'm so proud of Lupita N'yongo because even though she grew up there, you can still hear that she has some African in her.

Shuuu if I got between $15 mil- $20mil a movie to speak with an American accent I would so do it, just for control I'd do it waya waya. In my opinion its normal for an accent to change I see it in these kids who go to township primary schools and when they change to model c schools for high school their accents change. Heidi Klum also used to have a thick German accent, Rihanna's accent is also slowly changing. She's a good actress and she seems like a proudly South African lady.

Define Proudly South African Lady ...
With that horrible American forced Twang !
...
(Some of us lived in the USA twice longer than I lived in ZA ... I still don't have a forced twang!) ... much much much longer than Ms. Theron
...
And Managed to earn quite a packet ... still do ......
...
Sans playing to fit American
...
If the lure of money inspires one to emulate another culture to this extent, then I suppose one would deserve it.

Horses for courses ....

As much as the list of articles that make me shirk being South African turns the block,

NOTHING !
Would ever make me compromise being of where I come from.
...
That happens to be ...

SOUTH AFRICA !

...
20 mil / Movie might seem like a lot of money
...It is NOT !
(California is one of the higher taxed states in the USA,
Plus Federal taxes ... 20 mil is actually less than 10mil)
(One Pays State & Federal Taxes in the USA)
(...not given the way people in showbiz burn through money)
...
Besides ...
EVERYTHING in Showbusiness ...
is SHOW business !!!

I never considered her South African in the first place...so am not bothered at all.
But then, does one have to have an accent to be seen as patriotic???
