I was browsing the Top Movies on telly in the
Primetime TV Ratings and was interested to see that e.tv's maintaining it's monopoly when it comes to movie ratings.
Week after week the channel dominates the Top Five Movie spots. Crazy considering some of the titles but oh-so-true. SABC1 will often have one or two titles in the mix but overall e.tv always dominates.
For an overview of the trend, here's a look at the ratings for the past four weeks:
Week 13:1) Beat the Drum (SABC1) 2,694,000
2) Spider-Man 3 (e.tv) 2,694,000
3) Until Death (e.tv) 2,418,000
4) Legionnaire (e.tv) 1,837,000
5) Baywatch: Hawaiian Wedding (e.tv) 1,224,000
Week 12:1) Anacondas: Trail of Blood (e.tv) 3,673,000 (
Shocking - why!?)2) Bloodsport (e.tv) 2,785,000
3) Spider-Man 2 (e.tv) 2,571,000
4) The Fast and the Furious (SABC1) 2,357,000
5) Guess Who (e.tv) 1,316,000
Week 11:1) Anacondas: Hunt for the Blood Orchid (e.tv) 3,734,000 (
Ditto, ditto above comment, yawn.)
2) Spider-Man (e.tv) 2,326,000
3) The Punisher (e.tv) 2,326,000
4) The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian (SABC1) 1,469,000
5) He's Just Not That Into You (e.tv) 918,000
Week 10:1) Anaconda (e.tv) 3,887,000 (
Bah!)
2) Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer (e.tv) 2,388,000
3) Terminator 3 (e.tv) 2,265,000
4) Girl Fight (e.tv) 1,561,000
5) Georgia Rule (e.tv) 1,347,000
Ultimately the figures reveal the venomous truth that the Anaconda franchise has been the most popular movie title on TV over the past month.
What about the actual movie-movies at the cinema? This is the latest Top 10 across all cinemas and distributors - figures from this past weekend (12 - 14 April):
