Fabio: officially
the most unlikely winner out of any season of Survivor ever and a surprising saviour who rescued us from having to suffer a win by Chase or Trash.
I was stumped as the
Nicaragua finale unfolded on Monday night because I'd never for a moment considered Fabio as a winner. I didn't
not consider him, I just sort of glazed past him. I overlooked and underestimated him - in the same way everyone else did.
Ultimately it turned out that he was the lesser of the gruesome evils on offer so I ended up feeling okay with him winning. I really wanted Holly to win but once she was out Fabio became the only option. I honestly can't believe that Chase got as many votes as he did - nor that the rest of the losers had such deep, aggro agendas towards Holly.
It's the most bizarre thing because I also thought she stood an excellent chance of winning if she made it to tribal council - I would also have voted her out if I'd been in the final four -
but, in reality, she might only have snatched one vote from Alina.
When she gets to Ponderosa they all loathe her so much they refuse to talk to her! You'll see ... only Alina welcomes her, no-one else even greets her.
Eventually Benry talks to her the next morning but the way they respond to her strongly suggests that they would never have voted for her. What happens at Ponderosa suggests a very different reality from what I imagined the situation to be.
Sort of like the mind warp of seeing clips of Fabio retroactively, after his win. Did you also find it weird when the Reunion Show re-played clips of Fabio in the show? It was as if one could see an awareness in him that you couldn't see before which resulted in me looking at his scenes differently.
Not that he's brain surgeon or anything but he definitely ended up having an extra surprise dimension to him.
At the Reunion Show Jeff always mentions how the winners will be getting their cheques on The Early Show the next morning and we never see the footage so I've been investigating and was tickled to find a clip of it.
Here it is ... followed by vids of
Mickey Rourke Dan and Holly at Ponderosa, followed by another interview with Fabio in which he reveals his plans for the money:
PS: I'm
very pleased that Jeff and the show will be doing something about QUITTERS on the jury. I've been meaning to say that I thought NaOnka and Kelly should never have been allowed to be on the jury and was pleased to see that the show and lots of others feel the same.
