Episode 105

Gregory arrives at SBPD and arrests Cole for assault to ensure he stays for Elaine's trial. Cole warns Gregory he'll lose everything. Caitlin calls her mum who says her father left in a hurry. Caitlin fears Cole's been caught and tells Madame Deschanel she has to leave for Sunset Beach.

Olivia's shocked when Caitlin arrives home and tells her Gregory has Cole, then he enters with a handcuffed Cole and tells Caitlin to say goodbye to her lover as he's being extradited to Europe.

Cole confesses he's been sleeping with both mother and daughter, and Caitlin's heart-broken, whilst Gregory calls Olivia a tramp and demands she gets out of the house. As Olivia falls onto the couch with Gregory yelling at her, it seems as if it's all a dream. She rushes out.

At SBPD, Gregory lashes out at Cole and Olivia faints. As she comes round, Caitlin enters the interview room. Whilst Annie and Tim discuss how to unlock the studio door, Meg tries to pick the lock then starts reading the journal. Ben asks why Maria won't let him go and is interrupted by Annie thanking him for the wine.

Then Tim arrives and asks if Ben's seen Meg, saying he's worried she's depressed since her mum went home. Ben indicates he's busy and suggests Meg might be at Surf Central, but is interrupted by a call. Meg hides as someone unlocks the door.

She tries it, finds it open, and after locking the door again, walks to the stairs but hears Ben talking to Tim and Annie. She climbs through a window and down the trellis, which breaks. Ben calls Mark but he hasn't seen Meg. Ben indicates it's nothing to worry about. Tim agrees, but Annie persuades them to start looking.

Ben gives in, opens the front door and finds Meg standing there. She says she's come for the fax, which Ben's forgotten about. He picks a leaf out of her hair and tells Tim and Annie there was nothing to worry about.

As Ben checks on the fax, Meg asks Annie what she's playing at, but Annie says she's been with her aunt Bette all night. Bette arrives to confirm her alibi, asking for antacid for a stomach ache.

Annie comments that Ben was at home all night and it isn't long before Meg excuses herself. When everyone's gone, Ben comments on how strange the whole evening has been, and Meg ponders whether Ben could've locked her in the studio.

Meg confesses to Mark that Ben is really starting to scare her. He asks if he's hurt her, but Meg says he hasn't. He tries to probe further but is distracted by Michael and Casey. She later asks him whether he thought Ben was capable of murder, and he assures her that although Ben's secretive he isn't a violent man.

Tim arrives and puts ideas into Meg's head about the possibility of Ben being an Internet psycho, but adds that he thinks Ben's a great guy. She returns to Ben's, pops into the studio and reads something about a secret in Maria's diary. She finally returns the key to the humidor as Tim and Annie watch her leave.

Whilst collecting Caitlin's belongings, Gregory offers her and Cole to stay at the house instead of at the Seabreeze. Cole declines the offer, but Gregory says they should at least leave Caitlin's luggage whilst looking for an apartment.

Cole suspects Gregory isn't being entirely truthful and tells Caitlin they need to leave town as soon as possible. and that he's arranged for a private consultation with the judge in order to help Elaine without attending the trial.

Gregory receives a call from the judge's office about Cole's meeting, and arranges an alternative solution. Cole visits Elaine at SBPD and she gets the feeling he's trying to say goodbye.

Rae tells Wei-Lei she wants to move back to San Francisco with him in the hope of reconciling with her parents. She writes Casey a note asking him to understand, but before she can leave he returns from the trial. He looks at the bags and accuses Rae of running away from him.

He can't believe she hasn't got the guts to say goodbye to his face and accuses her of doing anything to please her parents - including sleeping with Wei-Lei. She tells Casey he doesn't understand and, as Wei-Lei arrives, Casey pleads for her to stay in Sunset Beach to live the life she wants to lead. But she leaves with Wei-Lei.

Casey returns home later to find his mum has dropped into town. Gregory asks his contact if the package (referring to Cole) has been picked up and whether a young blonde-haired girl was with it. Caitlin calls Madame Deschanel to report Cole missing.

Gregory assures Olivia he doesn't know where Cole is and he's integral to Elaine's defence. As Caitlin tries to call Cole, the kidnappers on the plane realise the ringing is his cell phone. One of the guys goes to shut it off, but Cole - no longer handcuffed - ambushes him then takes out the pilot before flying the plane himself.

As Elaine's trial begins and Gregory tries to stall, he calls Bette and Ricardo to the stand. And with still no sign of Cole he asks Elaine to testify herself. Reluctantly, she tells her story but is briefly distracted by Julianna Deschanel. After her testimony, Caitlin demands her father tells him what he's done with Cole, but Gregory denies any involvement.

The prosecution calls for Elaine to be charged at the maximum penalty, but Julianna Deschanel asks if she can tell her story first. Gregory asks for the story to be heard in the judge's chambers, but then Cole arrives and says his grandmother doesn't need to say anything.

Episode 109

Meg catches Ben outside Maria's studio and asks why he won't go in there, but he tells her there's no reason to. Downstairs, Meg asks why he won't talk about it and Ben explains he needs to keep things contained because he's afraid of hurting her. He adds that what happened in the studio is something he'll regret for the rest of his life.

Mark sees Meg on the beach and she tells him she's scared of Ben and thinks he killed his wife. As she explains about the blood in the studio they're interrupted by Ben who asks Mark to cover at The Deep whilst he attends Elaine's trial to keep an eye on Annie.

Mark tells Meg he wants to see the studio for himself, and as they sneak into Ben's, Tim arrives at the door. As they open the studio door, Meg stares in shock. Cole asks Gregory what he's playing at and he smugly tells Cole that no matter what the outcome of the case he'll win.

The trial begins again and Gregory announces that Elaine is a cold blooded murderer. Whilst the court room settles at the shock of Gregory's outburst, he continues by denouncing Del as a selfish, vindictive man who plotted to steal Elaine's son and told her he'd killed Cole and would do the same to her daughter.

He asks the judge to have mercy on Elaine and give her a chance to make up for the twenty-something years she lost with her son. Cole is brought to the witness stand and reads his mother's letters to the courtroom, asking forgiveness for her mother.

After a short recess, the judge returns a verdict that Elaine should serve three months probation and two-hundred hours of community service. During the celebrations, Cole is intercepted by Interpol who put him under arrest. Caitlin blames her father as he looks on with triumph.

Thursday 10 April, 2008
Episode 110

Interpol hold Cole in SBPD's interview room and he tells Caitlin not to worry but to call Paula. She tells Paula about Cole being arrested and about to be sent to Europe, but that he doesn't want Elaine to know.

Paula asks if Ricardo passed any info onto Interpol, but he denies any involvement. At SBPD, Ricardo inspects the extradition papers trying to find a loophole, but they're airtight and Cole is taken to the airport.

Caitlin tags along with Ricardo and at LAX she asks for a moment with Cole. He tells her he has a plan and to not let Gregory get to her as that's what he wants. Gregory smugly watches as Cole's taken away. Meg's horrified at the immaculately clean studio looks and assures Mark she's not going mad.

At The Deep, Ben washes blood from his hands, wraps a bandage around the cut and slumps on the floor in his office. Meg ponders whether Ben could've cleaned to hide evidence he killed his wife, but dismisses the idea, concluding Annie's making her go mad because she's jealous of her relationship with Ben. She follows Annie home and pops in to Ben's.

The French door startles her as it closes mysteriously. And Annie enters as Meg asks Maria's portrait what happened in the studio. Meg accuses Annie again of playing a game, but she tells Meg she was at the hearing and Ben was supposed to meet her. As they ponder where Ben is he enters and asks what they're doing there. Meg notices the bandage, asks how he cut it, and Ben responds it must've been glass left from the robbery.

He comments how Mark never came to The Deep and Meg realises Ben's been alone. Tiring of her questioning and the welcome committee he receives every time he returns home, he asks them to leave, and Annie comments on it being 'the anniversary' tomorrow.

Ben tells her not to go there. As they leave, Meg asks what 'the anniversary' is, and Annie smugly tells her it's four years to the day that Maria died. And it's the one day she doesn't want to be anywhere near Ben.

At Surf Central, Mark tells Meg he never made it to The Deep and Ben might've been the one to clean the room. Meg remembers the broken vase and thinks Ben could've cut himself on that.

Whilst Michael gives Virginia a massage, Vanessa returns from Hong Kong less than pleased to see them both together. She relaxes a little when Virginia reveals her broken leg, and Michael explains how Virginia was all set to move out, but she'll have to stay there for a while longer.

Later while out on the beach, Vanessa promises some quality time as soon as she's finished her article. As Cole is about to be loaded onto the plane and Interpol grab Caitlin to stop her, Gregory demands they let her daughter go and issues Interpol with a federal writ freeing Cole.

He doesn't know what to say, but Caitlin reluctantly thanks her father. Cole on the other hand asks Gregory what he wants in return. Paula and Elaine turn up and Cole finally hugs his mother. Elaine thanks Gregory once again for saving her son.

She later returns to the Waffle Shop to a rousing ovation, but the celebrations are interrupted by the arrival of Julianna Deschanel. Elaine tells her she won't forgive her, and Cole arrives to tell his grandmother she's saying goodbye before returning home.

Ricardo and Paula get together at the loft, but as they start to make love, Paula sees her tattoo and remembers everything Myers had done to her. Ben takes exception to Ricardo's interference and slams him against the wall, demanding he arrests him or shoots him or something. Ricardo tells Ben it isn't grief he's feeling but guilt. He demands that Ricardo leaves and throws everyone else out, but Meg says she isn't leaving him alone. Ricardo tells Gabi all about Maria and Paula returns to the loft to see them in an embrace.

As Ricardo gets ready for bed, Gabi takes great pleasure in telling Paula how Ricardo told her everything about her sister. Meg reminds Ben she's Dorothy and that tomorrow is also one year to the day they started chatting on the Internet.

After Olivia has a dizzy spell and goes upstairs to lie down, Gregory tells Caitlin that Rose found an empty liquor bottle in an old hiding place. Worried that her mum is about to fall off the wagon, she tells Cole she needs to stay in the house for the time being, but Cole is less than enthralled at the prospect of Caitlin and Olivia under the same roof.

Tim tells Annie he'll kill Ben if he hurts her anymore, and a chance meeting on the beach between Meg and Ben provides Tim an opportunity. As Meg tries to apologise once again, Ben tells her that he isn't interested anymore and that things will never be the same.

Tim enters the equation and punches Ben out, but Annie and Meg get between them before a full-on brawl can break out. Olivia daydreams that Cole knows she's pregnant and Gregory finds out. She awakes to see Gregory standing over her and asks whether he's considered having another baby.

Cole and Caitlin return to the house to tell her parents she's decided to stay in the house so long as Cole is welcome to come and go, but Olivia is less than pleased with the idea.

Ricardo tries to persuade Paula to talk about the tattoo and Ralph Myers considering how they keep getting in the way of their relationship, but Paula's reluctant to discuss it. She books an appointment with a plastic surgeon to have the offending tattoo removed.

At the Waffle Shop, Gabi asks Mark whether there's a room to let at Surf Central, but Alex is staying in Rae's old room though he'll put a good word in for her. Gabi tells Mark that she didn't feel comfortable at the loft because Ricardo was always watching her.

After returning from the surgeon, Paula leaves Ricardo a note to stay at home rather than go to The Deep later on, but Gabi hides the note so Ricardo turns up at The Deep. She tells Mark that Ricardo keeps hitting on her, so that when Paula finally arrives looking for Mark he's not actually sure whether to tell her he's with Gabi.
