I Got A Refund From Destiny!

Written by Brown Shuga from the blog SHUGAS BLOGIWOOD on 03 Dec 2007

Okay, really now...I was only joking...honestly, it was just a joke Khanyi. (yeah right). hehehehe.

On the 1st of November I wrote an article about Khanyi Dhlomo's new magazine, Destiny and titled it  "
I WANT MY TURN ON GENERATION"
Well, after reading all your replies to the article and seeing that some of you believed I had done a great job marketing the mag, I sent Khanyi Dhlomo an email with "Refund On Destiny" as the subject. I basically said that I wanted a refund coz I thought I'd earned it and gave her a link to the article.
So today, a month after I sent her the email, (maybe she was waiting for the final sales figures :) I got an email from her asking for my details so they could send me a 6 months free subscription to Destiny!
Ain't that just cute?

Those are the kind of people whose businesses succeed! The kind who understand the power of TVSA....oops, meant the power of Marketing & Publicity!
Thanks to Khanyi for the kind gesture, it means a lot to me because I really just wrote the article truthfully and not because I expected anything in return.
Okay, maybe I did expect something by sending that email. I wanted her to know that there is a website called TVSA and I guess that was accomplished.

Heheheh next time I talk about "my readers" I'll be sure to mention that Khanyi Dhlomo is one of them, ummm...we actually have something in common Khanyi, something to do with a West African country :)

My whole interest in the mag was sparked by my love for Generations (even though I don't watch it anymore) so Khanyi's response got me thinking.....

TVSA has such a diverse and wide range of readers. We have all races, all ages and all these people are employed. The mere fact that they have internet access means that they are doing "not so junior" kinda jobs. I may be wrong but "data capturers" and junior clerks in my company don't have internet access, (why should they?) so why are advertisers not flocking here?

Our readers spend more time on TVSA than they do watching TV so why pay R100 000 per second during Generations when you can spend way less than that on TVSA? Okay, maybe not a fair question coz even though the site reaches a large number of readers per day, we cannot compare those figures to Generations but y'all get my point!!! I hope!

Okay, according to my "observations", the majority of readers here are women (the biggest shoppers in the world), SABC 1 viewers, people who are between the ages 21 - 35 and I know SABC 1's target starts a bit lower than that but I'm talking youngsters (mostly graduates) who are passionate about life (not just gossip and relationships), young professionals who love fashion, cars and fancy gadgets...and we allow them to spend the whole day talking about silly "Did you Know's" (Sorry TDC & mabloggers, I'm merely stressing a point), instead of your products/programmes?

Okay, I could stop with the TV channels but let me push it to the Radio stations too....Metro FM, since running your website is such a problem, why not use TVSA to get them tuned in for your "competitions" and stuff? There's only so much that FB can do but here people still get to keep that "anonymity" (hello Nonny), that they so treasure and with that anonymity comes the most brutally honest comments you can get!
Am I talking nonsense??
(If the answer to this is yes then please vumela ngaphakathi!)

Big Up to SABC 3 for that Jericho banner up there...if it weren't for the ad on TVSA, I would not have bothered with watching that programme, neither would I have known what Heroes is. (Which reminds me: Cloud9, you owe me something!)

Okay, I've kinda deviated from the original message but what I meant to say is, thank you to Khanyi for the 6 MONTHS FREE SUBCRIPTION to DESTINY , advertisers wake the hell up and yeah, TVSA Rocks!!

So yeah, if anybody out there has anything "free" to give me, like a role in Generations or something...be free to holla @ yo gal!!!

I bought the magazine because of you article and I am going to wait for your next review before I am going to buy the next one.  You are mos getting it for free and now you can you tell us if it is worth buying.  Every month...  can you imagine all the freebies that may be waiting for you... hehehe

shuga shuga, you're such an operator! congrats on the freebies, tho! and hope advertisers heed your call - but they're a slow bunch here in S.A, let's face it - they took forever to really appreciate the power of the black rand, i think it'll be another 5 years before they get what the internets really about.... (*sigh*)

but onto more juicy topics.... west africa, huh???????????? i love your life.....

Shuga wena uyadlala, wena u wanted a refund only, and Ms Dlomo offers u six months subscription...?Lol. But you deserve, after reading your article, i almost brought it(i kept forgetting to buy it when i was at a shop), bt the intention was definetly there.

Now, about the advertising...mina I've always wondered how much readership this site has, coz it has almost 10000 members, but that is no reflection on the readership. Also, how aware are TV and radio stations of the site and its possible impact?

But then again, I dislike nothing more that a website full of advertising cluttering the pages, so maybe its somewhat a good thing that they not all flocking here just yet.

Guys how do TVSA market itself? I mean do they only depend on the word of mouth? I came across this site accidentally and loved it also I am a bit enxious that there are no ad's here, while else like Shuga said the people who log on to it are employed (most of them except sponono hihihi) but seriously, thina we are woman and we spend. I wouldnt mind buying my favourate cd's here, or stuff for my MP4 and probably shoes and bags. So i say BIG UP to TVSA coz it rocks!!!

Now that's what i call knowing business. I'm also on a 6month subscription of True Love... Ok, i didnt do marketing for them.

All i did was complain about a copy that didn't have all the pages. It was short of about 20 pages.. i mean i didnt have my horoscopes and the Generations review.

SO i made a call and they said they'll send me the correct copy. Next thing when i check the post, the copy's there plus a letter of subscription. How nice...

The following month Cosmolitan had the 101 sex positions booklet. The copy i bought didnt have the that booklet. I made that call again, hoping to score another supscription, checked the post everyday.. and all i got was "the booklet"

Please guys who owns TVSA, is it Brown Shuga or someone else, Brown Shuga is really making things happen on this site.  And pardon me for asking this silly question, is Brown Shuga a he or a she?

I got this tvsa site from Isidingo website, am a fan there.  And since then, am hooked.

I was sooooooooo surprised to see "Destiny Magazine" in a shop in my country  Nigeria and I grabbed it as if it was going to disappear any moment from the shop, but I haven't found True Love SA in any of the shops I've visited and patronised, strange.

Lucky you dear, so I am sure you know exactly what the free magazine means dear. I agree with WhiteSockGirl the fact that you are going to be getting the magazine for free means that you must keep us posted so that we can buy too. Khanyi is actually a nice person, I hope some advertisers learn from her.
