First and foremost
( I would like to categorically state
, that’s how this would continue if I were a politician), I am very excited about the launching of the South African Film and Television Awards (SAFTA)! I absolutely think this is one of the best things to ever happen to our TV and Film industry.
We don’t have enough red carpet events in SA so this is such a welcome development also to honour and give much deserved credit to all those guys and gals who keep us glued to our screens day in and day out. Well done to those responsible for this.
Here is my pick of favourites to win in the TV Soap Category of the awards and to be fair, I will only pick my winners on awards I know something about. I can’t judge Best Director or Best Studio Light for example because I have no idea what that’s about....I thought brightness had to do with my TV settings, see what I mean?
1. Best Actress in a TV Soap: Grace Mahlaba - Backstage
Ashley Cole – Isidingo Michelle Botes – Isidingo
Shoki Mola – Muvhango
What the hell is Shoki doing in this category? She drives me mad... And I am not about to give Michelle Botes yet another award plus I don’t trust her to look grand enough when she goes on stage to collect it!!
Grace Mahlaba as Ipeleng irritates me as much as Khethiwe does so she ain’t getting it. I admit, I have a girl crush on Lee so she gets my award!!
2. Best Actor in a TV Soap: Dini Nondumo – Generations
Robert Whitehead – Isidingo
Makhalo Mofokeng – Muvhango
Ha shame Dini pulled it off nicely as Vuyo Nogabu...who didn’t like Vuyo. I think he did great but there ain’t no way he’s beating Barker Haines!! How many awards has this man got?
Sorry Makhalo (Pssst...who is he?) , looks like I didn’t give you a chance but I have never seen impeccable acting in Muvhango, sorry boss! Not even Rapulana is impressive yet.
3. Best Supporting Actress I hand this one to Xolile Tshabalala – Generations. Julia was the ultimate bitch and she really tore that character up!! No competition!
They keep pushing this Shoki woman down our throats I see...
4. Best Supporting Actor Leroy and Loyiso must forget! The fact that they are in Backstage is a total disqualifier...Jack van Onselen is ok maar die een is vir
Oubaas van 7de Laan af ek se.
5. Best Ensemble Cast 7de Laan are such a happy bunch, I would like them to take this award. Perhaps if Letti Matabane was not in Isidingo I would reconsider...(thank God she stopped making noise at Papa G’s)
6. Best Writer
Isidingo – I don’t even need to justify this one...
7. Best Make Up/Hair Stylist Direction Tough one, I always felt that the Generations cast sometimes wear too much make up but then sometimes they look absolutely gorgeous...last night I had a problem with Ntombi’s eyebrows, they were not the same size. One was thin and the other thicker so they can’t get this...
Eish, Black women and eyebrows, will we ever get it right??
Will leave it between 7de Laan and Isidingo, what do you guys think?
8. Best Costume Design Now my G-Spot takes this winner, hands down...not with Cherel’s questionable fashion on Isidingo, or Letti’s boob popping clothes, hell no!
7de Laan is very conservative...not as stylish as Generations. Ah well, that’s my criteria, I may be completely off the rail here.
