Reading Siyahleba in the City Press, I got so irritated with them..."Big Bucks can't buy Motsepe style'. 

They congratulate Patrice on making it onto the Forbes list and then go on to say "The shirt you are wearing on the cover of the magazine is just not happening."

I think it's a beautiful shirt and besides, we know brothas likes his colours bright and printed & this is definitely one of the better looking of the lot. 
Anyway, why would Patrice want to be stylish? Is it gonna make him another R2 billion? He didn't get where he is by being stylish and I don't see why he should start now. Besides, Dr Precious is stylish enough for the both of them. 

Okay, maybe if the comment was made in the entertainment section, I wouldn't mind, but really, couldn't we just stop at the part where we were congratulating him? 
Honestly, his shirt should be the last thing anyone thinks of when seeing this cover. We should be inspired and keen to learn how he did it so we can do it for ourselves, you dig?

Putting Pressure On Celebs:

This brings me to a question I wanted to ask after reading the comments/replies on the Mzansi Stars Report Card article. 

Why do we as the public & the fans, put so much pressure on our celebrities?
I don't wanna get into the "what is a celebrity" debate, just use it in the usual context.

For example, in the article, there were comments like :
"Chomee is wearing a Truworths/Topics dress"

(And please, I'm not targetting whoever said this, I'm just using what you said to make a point.) 

So why is it wrong for someone we see on TV, Magazines & Newspapers to wear a R400 dress bought on a Truworths or Foschini Card? Are they not allowed to be broke like you and me?
I mean, we all know that our celebs aren't the highest paid out there but we expect them to always be in top designer outfits. We don't even know how much some of them really make, we hear them on Radio so we expect them to drive a nice car & they must live in some expensive suburb. 
I'm not talking about people like Khanyi, who go to the paper & discuss how much their outfits cost. I'm talking about regular celebs who don't fall into the "attention seeking" bracket. 

We have all seen how poor some of our people are when they die & yeah, income for most of these people is not as constant as yours and mine. They don't get a guaranteed paycheck with pension, medical aid etc so are we saying they'd rather skip rent & invest in an outfit that will meet ours and shwashwi's standards? An outfit we INSIST be worn ONCE?

After wearing that outfit we insisted on, they get thrown out of their "townhouse" (coz they had to skip rent remember ?) & we laugh at them and say yeah, it's all those "fancy clothes" & cars. 
Okay, I'm not really saying we are 100% responsible for these things, I just think there is some sort of pressure that we are putting on these people and it's not necessary. I know they have to look presentable and all when they are in public but hell, we take it to the extreme methinks. What do you think?

I didn't mean to preach, just wanted to highlight that being on TV doesn't automatically turn you into a millionaire.

WHAT'S UP WITH THE NAME CALLING....

Since last Sunday, the tabloids were making noise about how she's dating married-man Themba Lukhele aka Skeem GP and now she's 3 months pregnant etc etc. 
Don't care much about her business really, all I wanna know is why Sunday Sun is calling her a B*itch? Their headline WHAT A LUCKY BITCH.

On seeing that headline , you'd actually think that maybe someone "in the article" called her that but no, not even the guy's wife said that. They decided to call her that coz apparently the wife is willing to accept her & the baby into her family. 

So those of you in the know, please school me. Are tabloids allowed to call people names like that? Isn't that like hate speech? 

I'm just asking....

ON TO POSITIVE THINGS:




On Thursday, SABC 1 launched Shakespeare in Mzansi at Soulsa in Melville. All I needed to hear was the name Soulsa & that was enough to get me there. There is something about the food there...gosh!!! 


Anyway, it wasn't about the food, it was about the 5 new locally produced mini-series that Fo Sho was launching. Remember what they did last year with abo Society, Mthunzi we Ntaba etc? Yeah, they're doing it again but these ones have 6 and not 4 episodes like aboSociety. 

There are lots of familiar faces & a few new names here and there so if your Tuesday nights aren't occupied (dammit, Prison Break!!!!!), then please catch the mini series at 20:30, starting tomorrow, 11 March with ENTABENI. 

(Damn, I can't believe these are clashing with Prison Break, dam that PVR, I still need it!)

Entabeni defs caught my eye & it stars people such as Zikhona Sodlaka (the one who was jolling with umfundisi on Tshatsha), Bubu Mazibuko, Dumisani Dlamini etc. 
The other mini series to look out for in the next 30 weeks are:
Izingane Zobaba (Isn't this a singing group??)
Jolile ka Kheza
Ugugu no Andile (mzansi love stories rock)
Death of a Queen

As Fo Sho puts it, the mini series are based on Shakespeare's tragic stories such as Macbeth, King Lear, Julius Caesar & Romeo and Juliet. 

*sigh* guess we know how they all end....*sigh*

Congratulations to the mighty (yes they are) AMAKHOSI on a brilliant game against Ea Lla Koto!!! For the first time in a long time, I decided to stay home and actually watch our boys and damn, I'm so happy for them. 
The smile on  Muhsin's face was just priceless. 


WOW!!!!

Well done boys....we may not win the R10 million but we will certainly compete in the Top 8!

True what u said about celebs Shuga, we complain about just everything but again they r in our face they must just learn to accept it. We r just like that. Even now we r so dying to hear from u what happened this weekend. Kamo I saw in the City Press that she might not be in Generations due to her pregnancy. I so want to c this Themba Lukhele person.

Iyho Shuga i also thought the same thing when i read the replies about Chomee's outfit. We the people who say they celebs dont invest we have a problem with them not buying expensive clothes or wearing the same outfits more than once.. I also had a problem with that headline of that newspaper and again i was like does love really make us that stupid?? Both the wife of that guy and Kamogelo are realy blinded by love or is it the money?? Chiefs finally won a game? Shame man i understand the fans's excitment

You can never satisfy people all the time.

When I read the CP article, i thought we are funny people. Why can't we celebrate the good and stop concenttrating on the negative mara yeah? So, who cares about Patrice's dress style, we should be talking about his business mind and finding ways of imparting his knowledge to people who might need it.

K4L - good win boys!!! Next Sunday, I'm assured of a new sermon as my pastor always finds a way of incorporating Chiefs loss in his sermon!!!

And, I remember reading Sunday Sun and Shwashwi criticise Zama Ngcobo for wearing the same dress everytime when there was celebrity parties, and the poor gal was only added two months ago in SABC's payroll.

as for celebrity comments...I think the pressure they get is because the public finds comfort in knowing that even someone in the limelight IS actually broke or can go to the same shop that they go to  and I think if you'r in the limelight you know that it comes with territotry....SO YOU MUST TRY TO ALWAYS BE ON POINT..I dont condone it..but I think its a trend from the US tabloids to celebrity blogs where the public gets a chance to "feel good about themselves" by scrutinising evry little thing about schlebs..so if you cant take the heat  u know what to do

I didn't buy CP so I did not read the siyahleba comment..anyway...apparently that (blacks only) meeting which was held by Blacks Journalist Forum was to discuss the way black journalists report/write their stories. Allegedly their reporting always had this black on black hate or pull him/her down syndrome.

That SS headline about Kamo was just not on...One lucky biatch..and inside it says one lucky makwapheni... again SS says the wife said she accepts Kamo and her pregnancy but when you read the article it is not exactly what the wife said...She said that she didn't know that Kamo was pregnant and she will stand by her man....didn't say she doesn't mind Kamo being the second wife.

certain  south african journalist are on a mission to destroy people,wonder why they struggle to give credit where is due and not bring people down.shwashwi wrote that andile has the looks,charm and the personality but she does know about the brains just leave andile alone,motsepe shirt does not have nothing to do with anyone of you low paid peeps.

Much of the same thing could be said about RGB and some of your articles. The truworths comment is just that a comment from a blogger and doesn’t need people to be throwing tantrums about it. Everyone was LMAO about it so now why it is when BS finds offence in it everyone is also doing it.

“Celebrities” put too much emphasis in staying in the public eye then they should know what comes with the territory. BS did someone say something about you?

and yes i 100% agree with you regarding the celebs it is so amazing when it come to the public or may i say the fans. We always complain about the celebs about everything that they do. i also blame the media on that one they always have something negative to say on this people. Example look when they die they alll ask  for donation. 

Just a piece on the article from the Umaji story on sowetan 

He lived in an RDP house with his mother at the time of his death – "penniless."
He revealed his HIV status after he was diagnosed with TB in 2006. He died at Zebediela Hospital two weeks ago.
He died a poor man and people had to collect money for him to be buried. 
 
Did they really needed to say the word penniless  i dont think so. This is exactly what Brown Shuga is talking about.

Username, mina I agree with you. Celebs are in the spotlight, and come to think of it, no one really puts much thought into how much they make, we just all think they should look good all the time, period. 
Mina I dont get what the beef is about, comments like that are as old as time, and i'm sure celebrities themselves dont care about them anymore. If we all started wearing the same outfits as celebs, what would set them apart, why would there be a need for them to be idiolized? Coz although we are all aware of the fact that they are just as human as us, they are in the public eye, they have a public to worry about.
Thing is, you might find that some of us earn more that these celebs, but we dont have the pressure of needing to look good all the time, and only buy from exclusive botiques, but thats why we are not celebrities.

@edgars: Thats exactly why some of us prefer to stay out of the lime light, coz we cant handle the nasty ish ppl will say about us. The issue here stems from the truworths comment, and fact is, as a celeb, you are no longer pereived by your fans and the public at large as a normal human, although we are all aware that celebs are human. 
How do u think chomme wud have felt about the truworths comment? I really dont think that wud have scratched any skin off her back, and thats just the point, a celeb knows that ppl will talk, just like we are talking now, and it is then up to them to decide what to do about what is said.
You cannot compare us "normal" ppl to celebs, its a different  ball game. If someone says something nasty about me, i'll flip, but thats coz my business is not out there under public scrutiny! Of course we have feelings, so do they, but thats not the point.

@Username, yo so spot on, Reason 1 why I joined TVSA was the extensive celeb bashing that was carried on a daily basis. I feel that non celebs have every right to carry on with what they do so well, talk nasty about them shlebs, otherwise what else would they do with their time and how would this very site exist without it, who wants to read how great so and so is doing, thats good for every once in a while but that wont keep us hooked.

i think the more hateration you can take as a schleb the stronger you are...you just have to develop a thick skin AND also up your game trust me you'll survive...

I joined tvsa following a link I got from an email. It was about Zamani Khoza’s outfits ku generations. The guy didn’t dress himself and surely according to this (tantrum) article, generations has a right to dress their cast anyway they like even from the street vendors if they see something nice.

Eish...............TVSA............what a way to start the week..........yazi guys I was so pissed off izolo. (excuse me fro going off-topic) Neway Jacob Zuma had a small party for the ancestors so he slaughtered a cow izolo elokshin Kwa Mashu (and by the way it was just one cow, but half of KZN was there.......mximmmmmmmm). The place was jammed pack and his hooligans of supporters were going ballistic singing his mshini wami song while grabbing iqhatha lkenyama here and there and all I wanted to do was to go somewhere but I couldn't coz the entire road was full of cars up until my house, I had to eventually ask the Lord to give me wings, and fly out of house, coz there was no space..............*Zuma fans I'm sorry but ke yesterday was a bad day for me coz of this man!!!*

1. Being criticised for every little thing you do comes with the terittory of being a celebrity. I'm sure those who are celebrities (if they are any good at it) know this fact and have learnet to live with it. It does us no good trying to fight on their behalf - frankly they don't care.

2. If you read tabloids - you should expect sensationalism...and a lot of untrue stories. They make a big story out of nothing. So if one wants stories that are true and real I would advise reading Mail and Guardian and like papers.

To the designers (David Tlale, Sun Godess etc), where are you, you all know that not a single paper goes by with out Chomme making it, why dont u use some of our "popular" celebs (chommee, khanyi, somizi), to market your design, imagine if the comment was "chomme in a david tlate out fit", how much publicity you could have gained.

2. These celebs always encourage us to support them, and buy local music more than international. Shouldnt you practice what you guys preach, these guys exploits the "proudly south african" name but when it comes to them they do the opposite, dont we have South African designers. Well you can't use any living thing to expose your clothes especially when you have a defined market for your clothes. And the Chomeee calibre I'm definately sure is not on Sun Goddess or any designers mind...maybe Loxion Culture. Its about image. According  to  Brown's Shuga's article....why do we put much pressure on Celebs...The thing is we view celeb's lifestyle as much more bigger and happening than us. Why because ....they  always brag about this and that to us for example...their cars, husbands, babies, houses etc. So its NOT us that put much pressure on them...But they themselses and their behaviour!!!!

@Sponono, I heard she died this morning. I heard it on highveld when Jeremy announced it before the 7am news, so i decided to do a bit of reasearch. I listened to the metrofm news to see if they'd say anything, and nothing was said, i even listened to the 8am news and still nothing...I think they finally did during the 9am bulletin, since it was already on news24 by then. Anyway, just a bit of pointless research.

P.S. U must read "Some of my best friends are white", u'll love it.
