As part of their May premiere line-up, SABC2 has announced a new Friday night music show called Sweepslag.
Following in the footsteps of
Noot Vir Noot and
Supersterre that have seen established musicians introducing newcomers, each episode of Sweepslag will showcase a new Afrikaans muso.
Filmed at the Rendevous Theatre at the State Theatre In Pretoria, the hour-long episodes will put the spotlight on two established Afrikaans musicians, along with a newcomer to the scene.
The established artists will perform four songs each, the newbie will perform one and their performances will be interspersed with interviews.
Hosted by radio personality Maurice Carpede, the musical backing will be provided by the Sweepslag band, led by Noot Vir Noot band member Jaconell Mouton.
Names of the confirmed artists in the line-up include Theuns Jordaan, Juanita Du Plessis, Kurt Darren, Nicholis Louw, Eden, Nadine, Chris Chameleon and Shine4. TVSA can also confirm that Steve Hormeyr's very much in the thick of things in one of the episodes.
The show premieres on Friday, 2 May at 19h30 and runs until Friday, 25 July, 2008.
