nat_geo_150Multichoice has announced that National Geographic Wild will be launching on DStv, Channel 261 on 26 March, 2008.

Abbreviated to Nat Geo Wild, the new 24-hour channel from the National Geographic stable places the emphasis on wild and is dedicated to wildlife programming, the power of mother nature and the future of our planet.

As yet no line-up has been released of the programming but these are some of the signature shows on the UK's Nat Geo Wild to give you a taste of what we can expect:

Hunter Hunted

Something is happening on the edges of civilization, people are mysteriously disappearing, their bodies discovered with terrible injuries.

With increased frequency, bizarre accounts of wild creatures attacking humans are making the headlines. Some cases can be easily explained, yet others remain a mystery, even to the experts. Is there a dangerous trend emerging with the tables turning and the hunters becoming the hunted?

-----

Planet Carnivore

A four-part series that looks at some of the planet’s most fearsome animals in their own unique neighbourhoods. Narrated by actor Alec Baldwin, the series reveals the dramatic stories of an African lioness, a great white shark, a polar bear and an Alaskan brown bear, and their gripping struggle for survival.

-----

Brilliant Beasts

For over 12,000 years, they've been our survival aids and our constant furry companions. But how smart are dogs? Scientists discover the truth about man's best friend.

-----

Bug Attack: The Blood Suckers

Entomologist Philip DeVries investigates the tiny creatures that nest in our living flesh, surviving on blood. Take a journey to the dark side of the bug world.

-----

Monster Crocs

Do giant crocodiles really exist? Biologist Romulus Whitaker crosses four continents in a search of giant snappers, ending in Australia where a 22-foot saltwater croc has been spotted.

-----

Dangerous Encounters: Monster Bite

Brady sets out to discover which animal has the world's most powerful bite. With the aid of a special bite meter, he gets close to the planet's deadliest creatures to measure their amazing bite force.

-----

Says Aletta Alberts, MultiChoice General Manager of Content: “Our African continent has such a rich and colourful wildlife history. It is critical that we ensure this wildlife heritage for our future generations. Nat Geo Wild with its strong focus on conservation and the ecology, provides an excellent and effective platform to promote nature conservation."

will this channel be on both the compact and premium bouquets?
with Dstv forever increasing their subs, i am cancelling the premium and opting for the compact which YET AGAIN is not being increased this year! so anyone keen on a PVR, R2000 let me know... just under a year old with everything including the original box!let me know...

Hey funky, it's only on premium unfortunately. Very interesting that the compact's not going up and that it hasn't before - didn't realize - I've always been under the impression there's a standard percentage increase across everything.

so did i, but think way back when Compact was launched... it was R199.... and there will still be no increase on that bouquet! makes you wonder....
oh well... R199 compared to R530, i just no longer can justify spending over half a grand on tv!
have nothing to show for it besides endless repeats!
