The SABC1 comedy
Everybody Hates Chris continues to be the most popular comedy on South African television, after attracting more viewers than any other comedy for the third straight week in a row in Week 35 (21 - 27 August).
With an average viewership of well over 2-million, the show proves that when the channels purchase good quality, current shows their viewers appreciate it.
Everybody Hates Chris is narrated by top comedian
Chris Rock, upon whose childhood the story is based.
Set in 1981 in the Brooklyn neighbourhood of Bed-Stuy, the throughline is Chris being blamed for pretty much everything that goes wrong in his parents' lives.
Another SABC1 comedy -
That's So Raven (which will be aired
on the new Disney Channel from October) - is the second most-watched comedy on TV.
SABC2's top comedy is Stokvel, SABC3's is
The New Adventures of Old Christine and e.tv's is
Arrested Development.
TVSA has compiled the Top 10 Shows per channel viewing figures for Week 35, as well as the Top 5 shows in a number of genres across all channels, using the TAMS Ratings provided by SAARF (The South African Advertising Research Council).

M-NetAlthough it averaged 824,500 in Week 35,
Egoli did particularly well on Thursday 24 August, getting an impressive 926,400 viewers.
The only show to beat Egoli in that timeslot on that day was SABC1's
The Bold And The Beautiful (2,516,700).
That means Egoli beat
Zwahashu on SABC2 (416,900),
3Talk on SABC3 (833,800) and a combination of
The Young And The Restless (509,500) and e News Early Edition (555,800) on e.tv.
Not bad going, considering it was the only show at that time on a pay channel (DStv excluded, of course).
