DStv's latest offering - the Disney Channel - premieres in South Africa on 25 September as the result of a multi-year deal between Multichoice and Disney.
The Disney Channel is targeted at children between the ages of 2 and 14, their families and caregivers.
It has more than 600-million viewers in over 100 countries in the U.S., Europe, the Middle East, Asia Pacific, Latin America and now in Africa.
Disney Channel provides a mix of Disney programming that aims to entertain, engage, educate and inspire its audience by tapping into the core Disney values of imagination, optimism and creativity.
It will be broadcast on DStv Channel 82 for 16 hours a day, seven days a week. Programming will start at 06h00 each morning and will run through to 22h00 at night.
A serious bonus is that the channel is entirely advertiser-free. At a time in history when entire channels - supported by revenue from target products - are dedicated to not just children but toddlers, an ad-free kids channel is pretty damn commendable.
The channel will screen blockbuster movies, live action series, pre-school shows and animation, featuring a host of favourite Disney characters.
Highlights include:
- Popular live action series: That's So Raven, The Suite Life of Zack & Cody and the brand new hit Hannah Montana
- Animated series featuring classic Disney characters like Tarzan, Goof Troop and House of Mouse
- Contemporary animated series – shows like Kim Possible and American Dragon
- Entertaining and educational pre-school shows, scheduled under the Playhouse Disney banner, like Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, Disney's Little Einsteins and coming next year My Friends Tigger and Pooh
- Disney Channel Original Movies including this year's global hit, High School Musical
- The best of Disney Feature films for the family such as Lady and the Tramp and The Heffalump Movie
The channel kicks off with the classic Disney movie Lady And The Tramp, at 19h00 on Monday 25 September.
