TVSA can reveal that EbonyLife TV will be coming to South Africa soon. It's been available on DStv to viewers in East, West and Central Africa and will launch in South Africa towards the end of year, on Channel 165.
The channel first debuted in July this year and was sparked by Nigerian entrepreneur, TV host and producer Mo Abudu who created it.
It features a mix of shows that cover entertainment, music, fashion, design, drama, comedy and talk. There are some international shows on it but the emphasis is on African content.
Mo Abudu's talk show Moments with Mo was refreshed for the channel - it's one of four signature talkers. Others in the line-up include The Banky and Tiwa Show hosted by Naija music hotshots Banky W and Tiwa Savage.
A notable development coming up for the channel is a local remake of Desperate Housewives called Desperate Housewives Africa. The channel will be partnering with Disney for the project - it starts filming later this year.
It's going to be a Nigerian remake of the show so the storylines and characters will remain very similar to the original American version but with Nigerian flavour. It'll be filmed on location in Lagos in a "Wisteria Lane" and will star local cast.
It's the seventh version of the series (including the original) - it's been reincarnated for five regions including Turkey and Argentina - Africa's the sixth.
There's no confirmed cast nor premiere date for it yet - we'll keep you posted when there is. In the meantime ... here's a teaser of the channel:
