2011 Metro FM Music Awards - all the winners
Chomee performing during the opening ceremony, tweeted by PruLuv.

The 2011 Metro FM Music Awards went down at the Mbombela Stadium in Nelspruit on Saturday night (26 November) and delivered awards in 20 categories, including a double whammy Lifetime Achievement Award.

Both Spikiri and Ray Phiri were honoured for their lifetime achievements while AKA, Zahara and Big Nuz headlined the night with multiple wins.

The ceremony was hosted Tbo Touch and Zizo Beda and opened with a performance by Chomee, Nothende and Theo Kgosinkwe.

As the action unfolded various shenanigans hit the show, most specifically an explosion of behind-the-scenes noise and panic that the audience could overhear.

Of course Twitter vibrated with the noise, with celebrity guests and those listening on the radio tweeting about the sound bolts. Tumisho Masha spent an hour worrying about it ...

... and TVSA blogger Cheesa (@Boni33 on twitter) heard it echoed:

Also loud was Zahara's swing from winner to cringe-moment. The newcomer won two prestigious categories and iced her trophies with a headline performance.

The only problem was that she performed on a swing that flew down from the ceiling and impacted on her singing. TVSA blogger Tazteeq (@narekekana on twitter) was in the action for us and had this to say:

Word from Taz' is that he grabbed lots of pics and gosss so keep a lookout for the sc-ooh-p.

I listened to the awards on radio. They were nice shem especially towards the end. I liked Arthur's performance when he performed a bit of his old kwaito hits, like bo Mnike.

And also afrotainment's performance was great. They performed Serious, Sting ray and Inamandla. Character performed ngu X. Zakwe also performed his track Bathi ngiyachoma. I love that song!

It cant wait to see the performances on TV. I hope they will be great as they sounded on radio and they won't be edited too much.

Zonke also performed Jikizinto. She sounded good. Then there was Zahara tjo her voice was flat, flat shem it was bad! She couldnt hit the high notes. But she was better when she performed Lengoma with DJ Sbu. I'm not sure whether a CD was helping her out but she was better shem.

Zhara has been performing alot shem her voice needs some rest. Bo need to give another child a bit of a break.

And then when DJ Sbu won single of the year for Lengoma he called out Zahara to on stage to recieve the award and said he doesn't take what he does not deserve. To him Zahara has Best Album of the Year and she is Best Newcomer. That was after Zahara lost those awards to AKA.

And then I also liked Somizi when he went on stage to accept his award for Best Styled he sang Lengoma with his own remix. It was funny. I hope they dont edit him as he also said that SABC might edit him lol.

There was also some technical problems shem during the show. Like we could hear Zizo and Touch when backstage communicating with the director or something. That person was so panicking shem. I dont know why they didnt switch their mics off when they were backstage.

I thought it was only us people who were listening on radio who could hear what was going backstage kanti also people who were there could hear them.

I just hope they wont edit these awards too much hey.....

Other than that CONGRATS to the winners! And I am happy that Zhara took song of the year!

And then Dj Tira showed that there is some beef between Afrotainment and Bullistic by twitpicing a tombstone with Bullistic's name on it after Big Nuzz won Best Kwaito, yah ne Durban guys.

I love the Ayamaah song.............Tomone i thought Micasa is gonna won that video award.

I'M sorry I really don't feel this Nondumiso girl. Yes she can dance but i don't think her vocal is super. She must just stick to dancing. Anyway she won full stop

Congratz 2 all the winners particularly AKA & his "humble" self. I couldn't agree more with the Lifetime Achievement awards for Spikiriwiki & Ray Phiri. Just a Q: How come Dj Cleo always, always wins digital downloads awards? Whether it's the SAMAs or Metros, Dj Cleo wins. #JustAsking

I just want to express my disappointment in SABC1. Last night, 9 December 2011, the Metro FM awards 2011 was broadcasted on tv with much anticipation we watched the awards in hope that we would see the winner of the R&B best album award presented to the onlywinnner from from CAPE TOWN Lloyd Jansen and by some strange events this was edited and cut out of the programe. How disgusting not even a mention - how are we supposed to support every South African artist in this country when some artists are discriminated against and EDITED to suit the needs of others. A formal apology should be announced.
