MultiChoice announced on Wednesday (2 December) that it will launch an additional High Definition (HD) channel on its DStv platform as part of growing its HD offering.
This channel will be launched on 26 December, to coincide with the start of the second cricket Test match between South Africa and England.
Thereafter, at various occasions, the HD sports programming will include the best of the English Premier League, La Liga football and US PGA golf.
SuperSport will then go ‘live’ with a 24-hour HD sport channel from 12 February, 2010, for the start of the Super 14 rugby tournament.
The top sports events available in HD will be broadcast on the channel, which will be available on Channel 171.
You can start weeping round about now if you don't have all the following accessories required to watch the glorious beauty that is sports in high def:
HD PVR(connected to the TV via a HDMI cable), currently priced at R2,999
A Full HD or HD ready TV (R10,000)
Satellite installation (minimum twin LNB)
Home theatre system (optional)
A DStv Premium subscription (R500/month)
If you've got all that, and love your sports, you just became the luckiest person on Earth.
And if you can afford all that, you're either a member of parliament or Joost and Amore. We hear their little tell-all book did quite nicely, thanks very much.
HD schedules will be published in the media and on supersport.com, while SuperSport will promote HD schedules on its other channels.
