Petition to get a TV programme off our screens

This isn't really a blog, it's more like an exercise to see if consumers/tv-watchers have a voice and if it counts.

Wouldn't it be gr8 if we can get a tv-show/commercial or radio ad off the airwaves?
Here's an exercise i'd like to see happen:

1. Let's get an ad off the radio/tv and not just because we hate the face-of-the-ad but because it really is a bad ad.

2. Let's try and get a TV show canned.

I don't know how this works for TV-shows or even if it will happen. Does anyone know?

the only thing i know is that the BCCSA will listen if there are a lot of listeners/viewers that complain about a specific ad.

What do u think?

;-)

Guys,

I find Bonitas Add very offensive. The billboard that is on our highways features a black mans torso. It's the only thing you can see. Not only is it distracting to our drivers, it is poor marketing. I find it very unprofessional in which they market their product. I found myself almost having an accident trying to figure out what add this is and what they are selling. All I saw was a black man, and then the rest you have to look finer.

I also found that some other people have also almost had some accidents because of this.

We can send emails to:
bonitas@medscheme.co.za
And try something their. Send millions of complaints guys.

When I found out what Bonitas really is, I got so upset as they are a medial supposed to promote health and saftey. Here they are marketing their product using sexual content which is extremely distracting to our drivers. Firstly, the huge picture of the black man is distracting to the details about their product. You have to really stare to see what they are selling. And you have to stare also trying to avoid the image of the black torso on the left hand side!

I seriously nearly rolled my car trying to figure the add. I am sooo upset.

Hey somegent...talk abt retrieving skeletons from a closet!

I submitted a complaint to the ASA on the cell C "talk for free on weekend ad" and got this response:

Dear Ms XXXXXX

We have looked at the commercial with your complaint in mind. We note that the voiceover in the commercial clearly states that, "blah blah blah". The commercial is, therefore, not misleading in this respect. {I HAD COMPLAINED THAT ORDINARY JIM ON THE STREETS JUST HEARS THE MSG THAT IS SCREAMED THROUGHOUT THE AD AND NOT THE NORMAL-VOICED MSG AT THE END}

Please note that the ASA is called upon to look at advertising as a whole, in context and from the point of view of the hypothetical reasonable person who is neither hyper sensitive not over critical. [THIS ESSENTIALLY SHUTS THE DOOR TO ALL FURTHER COMPLAINTS, DOESN'T IT?]

Looking at the commercial as a whole, nothing makes reference or suggests anything about race. tHe context of the commercial is that calls are for free. The character then exaggerates her behaviour to show that even if you didn't need to, you can call anyone because it is free. FURTHER BLAH BLAH BLAHing in defence of the ad.

I am all for trying something else to get trash off our screens, billboards wherever but I need to be sure that it's gonna have an impact. The purpose of this exercise WAS TO GET PEOPLE TO COMMIT THEMSELVES TO SUBMITTING A COMPLAINT otherwise u end up being the sole voice of reason.

I'll look out for that billboard cause I haven't see it yet.
