The movie is set in the future after the final war, the world has changed and a lone figure, Eli (Denzel Washington) is walking around witnessing lawlessness and gang-wars. He is untouchable and looks like a man on a mission.
The first 30 minutes of the movie, you see this ruthless killer that just wants to be left alone but doesn’t find peace. Everybody wants a piece of what he has; whether it’s valuable or not and he has to fight to get way.
Eventually, he reaches a town with a gang-lord, Carnegie (Gary Oldman) that has the most important commodity to man; water. However, Carnegie is looking for something more powerful and his gangs search everywhere to get this precious thing for him. Eli's arrival in town begins the war between good and evil and the viewer try to figure who the evil is and the good is…
The movie is filled with action, suspense and intrigue. I loved every minute of it! Try to spot the Oprah Magazine and the movie poster of a recent film while watching it. The cast includes Mila Kinus, Jennifer Beals and Ray Stevenson.
I liked the movie but have to agree it raises more questions than answers about a lot of things. Denzil Washington still makes this movie a must-see. It gets a super 4/5.
The movie opens at ster-Kinekor on Friday 26 February 2010
