Newlyweds Molly and Carl find their marriage taking strain when Carl’s best friend, the wacky, childish, messy Dupree, moves in with them. Fresh after an idyllic honeymoon in Hawaii and keen to begin married life, Carl and Molly arrive at their cosy home in the suburbs to find - Dupree.

Soon the marriage is heading for the rocks, and it’s up to the loveable lodger to clean up his act and show the couple just what a good marriage they have.

MONDAY NIGHT PREMIERES

WHY I WORE MY LIPSTICK TO MY MASTECTOMY
Monday, 1 October at 20:30

2006 90 min Directed by Peter Werner. Sarah Chalke, Jay Harrington, Lally Cadeau.

Based on a true story and memoir of the same name. With so many things going good in her life-great husband and friends, wonderful family, dream job-the last thing 27-year-old Geralyn Lucas expects is to be diagnosed with breast cancer. While having fear and doubts, Geralyn finds self-acceptance by relying on courage, humor, and her red lipstick.

THANK YOU FOR SMOKING
Monday, 8 October at 20:30.

2005 98 min Directed by Jason Reitman. Aaron Eckhart, Maria Bello, Cameron Bright, Sam Elliott, Katie Holmes, William H Macy, Robert Duvall

Sly satire about a pro-smoking spin doctor who has his work cut out trying to keep tobacco companies happy while at the same time trying to be an example to his young son. Where there’s smoke, there’s someone trying to put out fires. This is certainly the case with Nick Naylor, spokesman for the Academy of Tobacco Studies.

As spin doctor for tobacco companies, at a time when smoking has never been more unpopular, he has the toughest job in the world. He has to persuade the Marlboro Man, who’s just been diagnosed with lung cancer, not to sue. He has to convince a big Hollywood producer to bring back smoking in movies.

He has to fight a senator’s court action to get pictures of skulls and crossbones placed on cigarette packaging. And he has to set an example for his son, Joey, 12.

As he commiserates with other “merchants of death” – a woman who promotes alcohol and a man who promotes gun ownership – he gets involved with a Washington Probe reporter whose real agenda is not sex, but the stories he’ll tell her when she gives him sex. It’s all enough to make a man take up smoking.

Based on the novel by Christopher Buckley.

THE WEATHER MAN
Monday, 15 October at 20:30

2005 101 min Directed by Gore Verbinksi. Nicolas Cage, Michael Caine, Hope Davis, Gemmenne de la Pena

Offbeat character piece about a Chicago weatherman whose personal life is in crisis while his professional life is soaring. Dave Spritz, a weatherman working for a Chicago TV station, is being buffeted about by life’s storms. His ex-wife still bears a grudge against him, his two teenage kids – a son who spent time in rehab for drugs and an overweight daughter with self-esteem issues – don’t like him, and his Pulitzer Prize-winning writer father treats him with disdain.

The only thing he’s good at is his job, although even that is questionable as “fans” throw food at him wherever he goes. But there is a silver lining to his dark cloud: a New York TV station has shown interest in him. Could sunny days be just around the corner?
