The
weekend festivities continued on Friday with the Bacardi 1920s Prohibition Party in Taboo, Sandton. Then Saturday I was back in Sandton for the MTN Radio Awards.
FRIDAY I have a love-hate relationship with themed parties and this 1920's theme threw me off completely. I battled to find anything in my wardrobe that coincided with the 1920s era.
My "partner" and I decided the "granny" look was the way to go...
And this was Tazteeq's 1920s look... We all made sure we made a stop at the magic chair. lol
Mi Casa was the Act of the birthday celebrations. J Something was the first member of the group that we spotted.
He spent some time posing with his fans ...
And more fans ... he's very sweet and let's hope he stays that way.
Their PR guy/manager introduced all the band members. Dj Duda gave us a sample of his skills before the performance.
Can someone help with the name of this instrument because I was told it's not a trumpet. Mo-T also forms part and parcel of Mi Casa.
The group members where escorted onto the stage by the "police in tights." Then they showed us some serious dance moves. Hay, jealous down ... they sure can dance.
Poppy was also the main DJ for the birthday celebration. She's such an awesome person.
We strained our eyes, trying to spot familiar industry faces. And right there in the centre was the buff Top Billing Presenter, Simba.
Then there was the Hectic Nine 9 dude. I feel bad that I completely forgot his name. I hope for his sake he was over the legal limit.
Also in attendance was South Africa's Perez Hilton, Mika, who was rather calm. I wonder why ...
And this ... was my favourite pic of the night.
Just before we left the do, people started showing signs of consuming too much Bacardi.
One of the Bacardi abusers was this woman, who was on her way to the loo. En route to the loo, her not-so-sober mind told her to entertain the crowd by pole dancing. Yeah ... she must have forgotten that she was wearing a short dress.
Before long, she proved that booze and pole dancing can be in the same venue, but it's not meant to be mixed. Mara, she was the comedian for the night and gave us a good laugh ...
Thanks to Bacardi for a fun night, but for such a major brand, one would expect a bigger than life birthday celebration.
SATURDAY After spending most of my Saturday sleeping, I made my way to the controversial MTN Radio Awards at the Sandton Convention Centre.
I've always heard rumours that these awards were a bit dodgey because the Primedia Radio stations, which happen to be broadcasting to an audience restricted to one city, would scoop more awards than national and regional stations.
You judge for yourself, if these rumours are true.

I'm just grateful that Ukhozi FM is recognised as a PBS, because if it was Commercial and didn't scoop many awards, iyooo ... heads would turn.
The event was kind of a yawn. There was nothing exciting about it. I still don't understand why they played international music throughout the awards. We talk about supporting local music, but when the voices of radio meet, international music is played. *SMH*.
