I guess my vain attempt to recap all episodes before Season 2 starts this evening has failed abysmally. Sigh! I guess this is my last minute attempt to do something! I’ll run quickly through our characters and what we can hope to expect from Season 2.
Charlie Pace (Dominic Monaghan)Charlie is a has-been rock star and recovering drug addict. On the Island, Charlie had befriended Claire, and they are both kidnapped by one of the “Others”. Charlie is hung and left for dead, but is resuscitated by Jack. The kidnapper is later shot and killed by Charlie. Charlie later rescues Claire’s son (along with Sayid) when he is kidnapped by the French woman Danielle. They stumble across a plane which contains a cargo of heroin in the process. I guess the burning question RE Charlie is Can he maintain his rehab status?? My heart says yes, he will resist, but my head says no.
Sayid Jarrah (Naveen Andrews)Sayid is an ex-Iraqi communications officer who specialized in getting people to “communicate”. On the island, Sayid is very much a part of the decision making team. He and Sawyer have an instant animosity towards each other. Sayid stumbles across Danielle, and steals her maps. With the aid of Shannon, he deciphers some of it. He also convinces Locke to disclose the secret of the hatch. Sayid has developed some sort of romantic relationship with Shannon. Will Sayid be able to figure out the source of the magnetic transmission on the Island??
James “Sawyer” Ford (Josh Holloway)Sawyer is a Con man who generally preys on rich women who have too trusting husbands. On the island, Sawyer is the bad-boy – hording things. But he does have a soft spot and as much as he tries to push through his bad boy image, I really don’t buy it. There is a huge amount of unresolved sexual tension between him and Kate. Sawyer buys a place on the raft, and when they encounter “the others”, pulls out a gun. He is shot at and falls into the water. Is Sawyer still alive???? I’m willing to bet that he is.
Hugo “Hurley” Rayes (Jorge Gracia)Hurley is a chubby chap who won the lottery. Unfortunately, the more money he made, the more bad luck he seemed to have, leading him to believe that the number he used to win the lottery with were cursed. I’m sometimes inclined to agree with him. The very same numbers are found on the hatch, and when Hurley sees it, he goes a bit ballistic and tries to stop Locke from blowing up the entrance to the hatch. I guess we hope to learn what the numbers actually mean.
Claire Littleton (Emilie de Ravin)Claire was 8 months pregnant when she boarded that fateful flight. Claire was abandoned by her boyfriend and was flying to LA on advice from a psychic. Claire and Charlie are kidnapped, and when Claire finds her way back to camp, she remembers nothing. Charlie gives her back her diary. She offers herself as bait when Ethan threatens to kill a castaway each day. She later has a baby boy (Aaron) who is kidnapped by Danielle. Is Aaron going to be safe from the “others”?
Michael Dawson (Harold Perrineau)Michael is a single father struggling to bond with a son he had not seen in 9 years. On the island, Michael resented Locke for bonding with his son Walt. Michael eventually builds a raft, which is burn down. A second raft is built with the help of Sawyer and Jin. They set sail and the “others” kidnap Walt and set the raft alight.
Walt Lloyd (Malcolm David Kelly)Is Michael’s precocious 10 year old son and is a bit weird. I find it far too co-incidental that twice Walt has been reading about polar bears, and twice there have been attacks by polar bears soon after.
Will Walt and Michael be reunited?
Shannon Rutherford (Maggie Grace) - May contain spoiler for Season 2Shannon is a spoilt rich girl and is quite accustomed to not only getting her own way, but of weaving mean around her fingers as well. Shannon has not provided much to the life at camp but kind of makes up when she assists Sayid to interpret the map. There have been hints of a death of a major character in the opening episodes of Season 2, and I am inclined to believe its going to be Shannon (due to hints given to me by people who should really know better)
Sun Kwon (Yoon-jin Kim)Sun is a Korean woman married to Jin. Sun learnt to speak English without her husband’s knowledge and when he finds out, feels totally betrayed and gives her the silent treatment. Sun knows quite a bit about herbs and plants and is somewhat like the island’s nurse. She has developed a friendship with Kate, and in my opinion, there are “vibes” between her and Michael as well. She makes a ‘dictionary’ for Jin – with Korean words and their English phonetic counterparts.
Jin Kwon (Daniel Dae Kim)Jin married into a rich family, and consented to work for his father-in-law. On the island, Jin is the fisherman. He’s possessive over Sun and doesn’t trust Michael, but they work together to build the raft. Prior to leaving, he and Sun finally break down and admit that they still love each other. When Sawyer is shot, Jin jumps into the ocean to save him.
John Locke (Terry O’Quinn)John Locke has got to be one of the most enigmatic characters ever written. I’m not sure what to make of him. He’s a hunter, a tracker and has helped most people on the island discover more about themselves. Locke and Boone stumble across the hatch and spend weeks excavating it. Later, Locke and Boone find a wreckage of a plane on a cliff. Boone ventures into the plane, and is killed when the planes falls off the cliff. Sayid and Locke show Jack the hatch and its blown open.
Jack Shephard (Matthew Fox)The island’s doctor, who is honour bound to try and act the hero every chance he gets. Ok, I’m biased. I really don’t like Jack. Jack is the “leader” of the castaways. He does make a fine leader, and his decisions are generally for the greater good of everyone.
Kate Austen (Evangeline Lily)Kate is a convict guilty of a crime we know nothing about. As much as I dislike her, I grudgingly admit that her story is the most intriguing of the lot. Kate has formed a bond with Jack, but I think her heart lies with Sawyer.
I must apologise, I tried very hard to write bios on Kate and Jack, but I just couldn’t do it. They appear in just about every episode and are involved in practically everything.
Boone Carlyle (Ian Somerhalder)Boone was Shannon’s step-brother and Locke’s sidekick. Sadly died just when I was warming to him.
What can we expect in Season 2?Much more mystery, suspense and unanswered questions, I am sure. Well, like I stated earlier, there is going to be a death of a major character early in the series. We also know that a few more survivors are found. We also learn what the hatch contains, and if I am not mistaken, the monster is revealed as well. I have been keeping well away from any Lost news, and my friends have been sworn to secrecy (even though they drop huge hints now and again).
Now, all we have to do is pray that we have electricity come 8pm tonight.
