Our own delicious sports presenter Robert "Madluphuthu" Marawa has been given the choped off air by the officials at the SABC.
It is rumoured that our sports man will no longer be heard on the Metro FM dicovery sports Centre programme because he was told to Voetskaaa after he aired a heated debate between SABC officials, PSL, and Supersport official on the Supersports right to broadcast soccer games for next five years. And guess where?.....On Supersport nogaal.
Dali Mpofu who is not only the head of the SABC but who we have read in the Sunday newspapers has his job in the pipe line because of loosing the battle to Supersport, showed Robert the door.
This, Blogus come after the man won a Sports journalist of the year Award in the radio category few weeks ago.
One of the judges in the competition described Robert as a man who has the ability to attract an "A-list" guests and confront issues head on with no fear or favour. "He regularly gets the inside news from sportsmen and women as well as administrators"
Is this fear blogus?
Why didn't the SABC give him the boot when the man signed a contract with Supersport?
Those of you who watched the show tell me did he showed any favouritism.

oh well Madlu'phuthu cant have his cake and eat it, he better stick to one job anyways, I think he's overated..but hey maybe I'm not into sports as much as some of you Robza fans.....but I know its not a loss for him, he's done well and financially he's ok....so dont loose sleep over this...besides, during the evening metro sports show you guys are obviously watchin some soapy or some other DSTV show or whatever is on your box at that time, so you wont miss his voice...hi hi hi

Damn, you beat me to it....I logged in coz I wanted to write my feelings out on this topic...thanks for it and like Pat said, please man, the RED is so painful to read through....
I am very disappointed with this Marawa thing, it's a sad loss to the soccer loving nation indeed.
People are still dealing with the SABC vs Supersport war and now Marawa's Discovery Sports Centre gets caught in between.
Firing Robert from Metro (if that's what happened) is SABC's loss because his show attracted millions of people to Metro (me included) and I think it's very stupid to take him off air.
They say they are fighting Supersport on this PSL games thing because they care about us, well, if they care so much why take someone we love off air? We don't care what he did or what the reason is, I WANT ROBERT MARAWA BACK ON AIR!!!
I modelled Shuga's Blogiwood on that show and wanted it to be the Discovery Sports Centre of blogging!!! Informative, Witty, Scandalous at times but always digging for the truth in sports. My heart is bleeding....
I was shocked yesterday when I tuned in and he wasn't there...then there was this guy (don't know his name) and it didn't click at all...then one of Robert's regulars, Alfie called on in on the next show to ask that woman why there was no explanation as to why Robert was not on air and why there was no explanation...he even likened the situation to the John Perlman thing...he he he very funny...
and that kasi something woman (i would know her name if metro website was up to scratch...) just said "I Don't know. I just got here and Robert wasn't here so I don't know. We don't discuss soccer on this show." heish...what a situation she was put in...shame....
Guys, we need to have Robert back on air, somebody please do something!! I know I speak for millions of people out there who stop whatever they are doing at 18:00 just to listen to that show. It was okay that he left SABC Sports (TV) could we could still hear him on the radio but this I cannot handle!!
I MISS ROBERT MARAWA and though I'm ashamed to say it, I MISSED GLEN LEWIS today too!!!!!

Robert Marawa is the best sports journalist/ presenter in Mzansi - he knows his stuff & he has awards to prove it!!!! No one can take that away from him.
SABC must get a life - the only reason the guy has been fired is because he left SABC TV for DSTV; I'm sure they have been planning to fire him for a long time..... All this is an excuse.
YOU GO ROBERT!!!! Soccer lovers who don't have DSTV will miss you.

I mean would you guys expect Gareth Cliff to work for 5 fm and Highveld at the same time? naaaaah thats some cold sh!t... talking about 5fm Rueben Goldberg and Elana Afrika has a fuss on AIR..to the extend that Reuben slammed the studio door and Elana had to ge that gay guy to do the news at 11... am not suprised Reuben is not my favourite person either..and I know why.. |

What I fell to understand is didnt the SABC bosses know he had two jobs? honestly dont we all see him on TV or is it that the bosses dont have DSTV or they dont watch the competition? I agree with you Shubby, this is deeper, wider, bigger than Marawa. I also hear that the Dali Mphofu's head is set to roll if they dont get the deal back. Lets watch the space for more details, it will get uglier and juicer.. |

NNa I say that the SABC is run by a bunch of idiotic clowns who have no idea what they are doing. Fine, if it is the case of serving two masters then, why did they not say that to Robert when he got appointed in October by supersport, it was all good and well until they lost PSL. Shame and we are supposed to cry with those bullies I don't think so. let them sort out their eish and stopping to pick on people like poor Rob |
