MultiChoice renames and enhances its DStv Lite package

DStv Access Large

MultiChoice announced today that from 7 May, its DStv Lite package will be renamed DStv Access and two new channels will be added, which will enhance the overall value of this R99 package.

The two new channels, M-Net Movies Zone and Mzansi Wethu, will give DStv Access customers movies without ad breaks for the first time, as well as more South African local content.

Over the last few months, DStv added a number of channels for customers on the R99 package, including Dumisa, Blackbelt TV, Mzansi Music and kykNET Musiek.

Last year it also added 2 community channels to provide these customers with content that is closer to their communities in the form of 1 KZN and Bay TV. The new channels complement and expand the local content offering.

“We are committed to bring great and relevant entertainment on our different packages to our customers. For the first time, customers on our lower packages will be able to watch not only movies without ad breaks, but also great local content that reflects South Africa today,” said Collins Khumalo, CEO of MultiChoice South Africa.

M-Net Movie Zone (channel 139) is a new movie channel offering from M-Net, which will feature an exciting wide variety of content - from comedies and dramas to family movies, to something to satisfy the action buffs. The channel will treat its viewers to a wide range of well-loved stars and movies from recent years.

Mzansi Wethu (channel 163) is a local general entertainment channel that builds on the success of M-Net’s Mzansi Magic brand and speaks to the hearts and minds of black South Africans who haven’t had access to pay television before.

The channel will feature authentic local content that covers a variety of genres including game shows, Lokshin Bioskop movies, sitcoms, local reality shows and a studio-based new Lokshin soap. More than 50% of the programming on this channel will be in vernacular languages.

M-Net Movie Zone will launch at 1pm on Thursday, 7 May and Mzansi Wethu will kick off at 6pm on the same day.

Customers on the DStv Family, DStv Compact and DStv Premium packages will also receive these two new channels.

Since November of last year, MultiChoice has added a number of channels across our various packages as part of enhancing our overall DStv offering.
