Starting on Discovery this October:

The Secrets Of Egypt's Lost Queen
Premiere date: 7 October 22h00

Hatshepsut is rumoured to have been the most powerful woman ruler of ancient Egypt, her reign stretched across all corners of Egypt and surpassed even that of Nerfetiti and Cleopatra. A 3 500 year old mummy has been discovered and it is believed to be Hatshepshut.

Forensic and scientific evidence could shed some light about the queen who would become Egypt’s king, she robbed her stepson of the throne after dressing herself as a man and declared herself a pharaoh.

The legacy of Hatshepsut has diminished from Egyptian history; historical records were destroyed, monuments torn down and her corpse was removed from her tomb - leaving a cloud of mystery over her death. In this exclusive special, a team of forensic scientists and archaeologists will use the latest technology to identify the latest find in Egypt’s Valley of the Kings.

Oil, Sweat and Rigs 2
Premiere date: 8 October at 22h00

In Oil, Sweat and Rigs the men not only have to lift the heaviest tools, they also have to lift their spirits to stay alive. The Riggers’ lives are in constant danger, their job is to ensure the safety of a once crippled rig and pump oil from the seabed while battling the raging waves of the Mexican Gulf.

Although egos do get the better of the crew at times, team work is essential, if an engineering mishap occurs the rig will be unsettled and everyone killed instantly. This job takes a lot from the men, they spend months away from their families and have to face the prospect of death on a daily basis; it takes a unique breed of men to do work on a rig.

The War Tapes
On: 14 October at 22h00

The War Tapes was awarded the Best Documentary at the Tribeca Film Festival and the Best International Documentary at the Britdoc Film Festival.

This is the first ‘real‘ war film that journeys into the conflict-ravaged Iraq, revealing some of the most riveting images as they happen - material that has never before been captured in mainstream media.

The war film was made by soldiers, Sergeant Steve Pink, Sergeant Zack Bazzi and specialist Mike Moriaty and certainly brings the world closer to the havoc, horror and devastation caused by the war in Iraq.

The Deadliest Catch: Behind The Scenes
Premiere date: 15 October at 21h00

This series about life on board with the Alaskan king crab fishermen has just got better. As if all the drama wasn’t enough, the Discovery Channel brings you a step closer to what really goes on behind-the-scenes in the rough Beiring Sea, a place of near death experiences for the shipping crews who brave the raging waters for a living.

See how the film crews - like the fishermen - have to stay tough to capture the unprecedented underwater images. The Beiring Sea is temperamental; it strikes abruptly without warning forcing the crew to be flexible and alert at all times. For the first time, viewers will see exclusive footage of ships being tossed around by the high winds - this is captured while the crew holds on for dear life.

World's Toughest Tribes
Premiere date: Monday 22 October at 21h00

A look into the lives of men who have some of the most life threatening jobs in the world. In these men’s lives, the skill of doing the job is not enough - it’s also important to have survival skills as you never know what lies around the corner.

Not many of us would opt for work as herdmen whose task is to protect 7 000 cattle from vicious pumas and jaguars. Or working 500 feet below the earth’s surface. Host Ben Anderson will journey the terrain of these men to see how they survive armed only with tools of their different trades and their unique code of brotherhood.

Building The Future
Premiere date: 23 October at 21h00

The Desert Tunnels in the Abu Dhabi desalination plant and the green construction in New York City have become symbolic icons of man-made structures that are built to protect the environment against human intervention. The engineering world is starting to reshape itself to meet the needs of the environment - building skyscrapers, long bridges and deeper tunnels now implies taking the forces of nature into consideration.

Each episode of Building The Future is devoted to a simple human need such as shelter, water or energy and how these requirements have led to the diversion of rivers, moving of mountains and the creation of land in the sea. The show takes a look at the battle between the survival of human needs and building environmentally friendly structures that will shape the future of planet Earth.
