BB: Let's Remember The Fallen

We have been tuned to biggie for almost 3 months, 81 days to be exact. We have screamed at the TV, posted weird posts on the biggie web, nastily attacked each other, the housemates, countries and soon it will all end.

I have been a fan of the Big Brother concept or reality TV from BBSA. I initially watched and could not understand the whole idea. Why watch people 24 hours a day? Who in their right mind thinks this show will survive? Except shower hour, I missed a lot of BBSA. It was fascinating to watch people do stuff, with you watching. Not hiding anything. At that time, everyone washed naked. They were not really shy to show it off, or they did not seem like they wanted to hide anything.

Then, Big Brother Africa started and I was hooked. I watched 24/7, missed work most days and was generally half asleep during the day. It was amazing to watch all these people from different backgrounds, situations, accents and 12 countries interact with each other. No xenophobia. Just being together - peacefully – and learning from each other. The drama for the viewers then was “Why is there only one white person?” Yes, The Namibian dude whose name escapes me now was white; he was also attached to his guitar like Code. South African’s were not happy that Abby was the representative because she started a thing with Gaetano, was loud (talking or laughing) and insisted on calling “Big Brother” biggie. She had an almost similar personality as Tatiana. She was touchy with everyone. Gaetano and Abby did the nasty and we all saw…

Biggie at that time was interactive. You could choose which room to look at! That was the best thing because we were not subjected to Maureen talking to herself and having no choice but to change channels! You could just click on the ok button and you had a choice of four cameras to watch and listen! You know I was only listening to Abby and Gaetano or Tapuwa. That was amazing and should be brought back!

Who could forget Tapuwa? Oh Lord! She was the Zimbabwean Representative – she gossiped and was a little freaky almost like Maureen. She had a major crush on the Namib dude and would do outlandish stuff when drunk. She was the first biggie contestant that washed with her swimsuit! The only time we saw her naked was when she drunkenly ran across the yard after a dare from the housemates. I loved Tapuwa… yes, I supported her because she always caused chaos in the house. She was there whenever there was an argument. She played all of them… At some point no-one spoke to her in the house.

The Ofunneka of that time was Cherise, the eventual winner. She cleaned, soothed egos, cooked, killed flies – basically mothered everyone! She won. I can’t remember what she did that made her be endeared to people but yah, she won!

I had serious issues with the technical sound of BB Nigeria. I could not hear anything unless my volume was fully on! So Tashi and I quit watching it! My ears were not worth the sacrifice of watching that biggie. I was glad that Brown Sugar persisted because she kept me in the loop.

I wonder what happens to the housemates after the hype? The first couple of months everyone screams when they recognize you… and then one day you are just a regular person. No-one cares who you are and what you did. What happens to your ego? To your need to be known?

Wouldn’t it be great if we have an All-stars BBA? Yep, bring all the BBA housemates that were funny, fun, funky and the forgetful ones back for a season! I would love to see Tapuwa, White Namibian dude, Cherise, Ofunneka, Maureen, Justice, Jeff, Meryl, Abby and Gaetano back for an all stars season.

I am weaning myself from the end of this BBA. It will soon end and we will need to go back to our normal TV schedules…

So, peeps, let’s reminisce about those days.
Tell us
When did you start watching?
What made you watch?
Who you liked and why?
If you know, what happened to those that left?
What kind of biggie would you like the next one to be?

I was a Big brother fan from day one....Imy favourite was Irvin yes simply because i fancied him and i thought once he got out i was gonna start stalking him......Irvin Loved your dress sense you rocked my world.

The least favourites were Nobesuthu and Vuyo too boring and they remained till the end if my memory serves me well.

The second BBSA ...favourite from the beginning was Thando Mkize...the opinionated one. By the way she was a lesbian...with a nice gal friend. I can't forget her...I also loved Zlako he kept the house burning with his crush for mandy...remember the song ...you can run , you can hide but you can't escape my love!!!! He ussed to sin that song for mandy.

Who can forget Elsie -Marie and her tactics!!!!

BBN....No favourites actually it was a total bore for me.

Big Brother Africa 1

Mwisho was my favourite from Day one....Taps i enjoyed your dairy sessions gal..who could forget that. Thats why Mnet hired you in the first place neeway!!!!

BBA2 Richiana all the way...playing a total, refreshing game!!!!!

I will skip the first four question and go to the last one.

The next biggie for me should be as follows:
The housemates that are nominated and evicted should not leave the house. They should stay in the house till the end but should be excluded from the nomination process. What I mean is that the format of nomination should remain as it is (HOH excluded) and whoever is evicted remain in the house till the end.

The one we have now is predictable and boring. Not mentally stimulating. All you see is kids kissing all the time. I want to hear participant having either a good or bad conversations about each other. This is what the kids watching BBA2 call it gossips. For me watching the show is not gossip but rather a conversation people are having about the differences they might have, good or bad.

For me the first two Big Brothers were the best. I loved Irvin, the prank that Janine pulled with the cucumber, Bad Brad and Ferdi doing the nasty in the garden, not to mention Margaret and Lee Benni with the cowboy hat, memorable characters and certainly one of the best Big Brothers for me.

In Big Brother II, I loved Ilse Marie, Richard (the eventual winner), Zlatko, Mandy, etc.

In the first African Big Brother, I have to admit I loved Cherise, and off course the antics of Abby who acutally went to my school and Gaetano were off the hook. Also loved the cross over with the UK version.

I'm not that into this season of Big Brother Africa, they bore me.

Shirmel,
Quiet agree with you on the BBA. They are such a bore and predictable.

Shirmell: <<Also loved the cross over with the UK version. >>

How could I forget that UK twist!! Damn!! that  was exciting times indeed! when Gaetano and what-his-face were swapped with the Biggie UK housemates for a week!! I was so excited... and it did make a change in the dynamics in the house...

why is this BBA week boring?

Meme, what are Meryl and Lerato doing in Zambia!! Tel the juice is Kwako T with Meryl or Bertha? i guess the fact that K and B aren't there mean they may be together cos don't you know B aint gonna let K be alone for long!

Anyway re seg's fabulous questions...

Mwisho was my fav. player til I met MAX and Lerato..

Cherise was as boooooooooring as ofu but you guys KNOW africa gonna vote for ofu.sigh.

Mau mau is even more boring the most boring yet crazy and the sound of both her and cherise's voices somehow drives me crrrrazy

i though tapuwa had a cruch on gaetano not just stefan

i also liked warona she was a laugh and abbey (the way she'd go "you (yuuuuuuuuu) know" when she wasn't sulking about geatano (pretty much always)

ferdi still feels like a celeb when i see him i think ooo celeb celeb ha ha i remember i couldn't believe he won

i missed the whole of bbsa2

Hi, hi Tati! The girls and Zambia? Meryl was invited for the Miss Liberty event in Kitwe last Sat and other stuff surrounding that. That I know! Then Lerato travelled up earlier this week. Know they were all at some Zambia Independence events. Other than that not sure!! Meryl SMS-ed briefly yesterday (still in Zam) just to say everything had worked out "great" (I had to try and help on Sat when her travel plans were disrupted coz of a cancelled flite). Kwaku? U'll have to ask the girls!! Think he's frendz with both, but not necessarily with eitha at this stage!! OK, B's in Jo'burg. She's been active on the BBA social forum this week and confirmed there she'd been in the studio with HHP! Segololo mite know more about that!!! Also said she and Lerato had been in Bots to see Justice! Hope this helps ...

Your questions Sego!!! The next BBA? Kind of don't know. As long as it's not like the second half of this one!!! My apologies to Richiana and 'Big' 5 fans, but that's not my sort of entertainment :) ........ I liked the gangsta chicks and the Kwaku poses, etc ....... Was kinda wundering if a celebrity Big Brother might not be fun before the next BBA proper? ........ u know, afta the Channel O awards, u could have Brown Shuga in there from SA and Gazza from Namibia ....... ha, ha ONLY kidding on this one. Still, a celeb version, uhmmmmmm ? And OH YES ... TAPUWA was my ABSOLUTE favourite in the first BBA. Believe it or not, also had a soft spot for Bayo! He was such a drama queen. But at least he had some drama ..... OK, what do u all think abt having a married person in the house?

I will second you on the above statement.

For me the next be BB should be a one country affair. This BBA thing is such a bore.
