Presenter Stefan Gates goes on a culinary tour of five very different cultures to explore the idea that food is a social glue that holds societies together as opposed to simply being about nutrition.

During his risky journey Stefan samples dishes such as fat-tailed sheeps testicles. He also picks up recipes from Dr Dogmeat, narrowly avoids being blown up by abandoned Soviet missiles in Afghanistan and tries to shake off his Communist Party minders in China.

Survivors Guide returns for a third season of investigative stories. Issues addressed include a look at whether South Africa can head off a water crisis. The country, which is already plagued by power cuts, could run dry by 2015 if water consumption continues to expand at the current rate.

Secret Lives Of The Artists delves into the stories of Vermeer and Constable unearthing their financial troubles, love lives and artistic motivations.

"Looking for Vermeer is a pastime bordering on obsession", presenter Andrew Graham-Dixon observes as he tries to shed light on the private life of the Dutch master.

Andrew also explores Constable's relationship with his wife and his possible inspiration, Maria Bicknell.
