25-year-old Dalen Lance has been chosen as the presenter of M-Net's brand new reality show High School Musical: Spotlight South Africa.

Having reached the Top 50 stage of Idols 2002 and Popstars 2003, he is very familiar with the kind of pressures facing reality show contestants.

As a singer-songwriter he released his debut album, Be Your Man, in 2006. He has also has stage musical experience, taking the lead in Joseph and His Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat in 2000.

On TV his presenting credits include Bling! and Pap Idols and he also featured in the films Dollars & White Pipes and Zenon 3. He was nominated as Best Youth Male TV Presenter at the South African Kids Choice Awards in 2005 and 2006.

He also managed to earn his Bachelor of Commerce Degree from the University of Cape Town, majoring in financial accounting.

Dalen will start his duties almost immediately, jetting off to the first Open Public Day Auditions in PE this weekend.

"It is an amazing opportunity!" he said at his first publicity photo shoot a few hours after hearing the news. "Internationally, High School Musical is a phenomenon and I think this unique reality show based on it is going to be massive in South Africa.

"It makes me proud to be part of such a juggernaut, an international property that has made big stars around the world."

According to M-Net's Head of Original Productions, Carl Fischer, Dalen personifies the kind of energy that will be the hallmark of High School Musical: Spotlight South Africa.

"Dalen is the perfect presenter for this exciting new show aimed at the whole family. He is dynamic and good-looking, yet down to earth, and thanks to his extensive experience in the entertainment industry, he'll be able to identify with the performers and be a role model for young South Africans," says Fischer.
