Strictly Come Dancing III

It was confirmed last night that the SCD team does read TVSA blogs….Sandy’s babies were covered in full and they got the collective noun issue (matching verb and subject) correct..well partly.

I have PMS which seems to have affected my opinion of the dances last night but anyway, here’s what happened.

1. Candice Moodley and Quintus dancing the Samba

They danced to some Bollywood song with a mix of English lyrics and I thought it was a strategy to get Candice to loosen up. She wore an Indian-inspired outfit but sadly the dance didn’t excite me. I have suddenly developed a dislike for Quintus (blame the PMS) and found the energy a bit forced.
Lillian thought their dance was like a carnival and I almost burst into tears.

Judges’ scores: D=6, S=5, L=7, T=6 TOTAL SCORE= 24

After the scoring, Sandy told the couple that they’d received the lowest score so far even though they were the first couple to dance. WTF?!

2. Patricia Lewis and Marcel dancing the Waltz

Patricia had little time for dance practice cause she was on a roadshow. Nothing wrong with that. My gripe is that they had one day to practice and perfect the dance but Patricia felt that she would be the choreographer and TEACH Marcel how to teach her how to dance. Does anyone get the logic cause I lost it. Nevertheless, I enjoyed their intro (come to think of it, they are the only couple whose intros I’ve enjoyed).

The judges weren’t impressed with the performance with Lillian describing Patricia as stiff and Dave choosing to describe her as an inflated balloon. I don’t know folks but me thinks the judges have moved into second gear (no more arse-kissing, yay!)

Judges’ scores: D= 7, S=5, L=6, T=4 TOTAL SCORE=22

Patricia displayed the phrase “in denial” perfectly when the scores were tallied.

3. Hezekiel Sepeng and Lindsay dancing the Samba

During the week, Hezekiel took part in some Potch-marathon and used the opportunity to hand out pamphlets asking people to vote for him.

On dance night, Hezekiel rocked up looking like Jabu Khanyile in a blue outfit and matching beaded headband. Lindsay is a great teacher---anyone that can teach Hezekiel to dance the Sika-le-khekhe goes down in history as a legend!! They danced to Brenda Fassie’s “Vulindlela” and this must have inspired Hezekiel to shake the stiffness outta his body. I was mildly impressed with his performance although Lindsay rocked my world. The judges looked like they wanted to jump out of their seats and airlift Hezekiel..they were bowled over (this is becoming way too familiar for my liking) and Tyrone went as far as to say , “Brenda would be very proud of you,” referring to Hezekiel.

Two things I hate are a) clichéd statements b) statements that can’t be proved right/wrong either way.

Judges’ scores: D=9, S=7, L=8, T=7 TOTAL SCORE=31

4. HHP and Hayley dancing the Waltz

HHP described the Waltz as the dopest dance ever and the reason he agreed to do SCD. Cracked me up when he said he was worried that his supporters would be on some, “Hey, check HHP on TV,” instead of voting to keep him on the show…L’dMAO!

This couple can do nothing wrong cause I love both of them to bits. They danced to Seal’s Kiss from the Rose and I could finally see the weight-loss on HHP. His pants looked like they were ready to fall to the ground. I could understand what he meant by the Waltz being the dopest, cause he made it look cool.

Judges’ scores: D=8, S=8, L=7, T=6 TOTAL SCORE=29

5. Lieschen and Ryan dancing the Samba

These two went to some primary school as part of their garner-votes-campaign and danced for the school kids.

Their theme for the Samba was a Cinderella-turned-princess with Ryan sprinkling glitter from his magic wand and turning Cinderella into the princess. I loved her outfit and thought she looked really great. Alas, their dance did not impress the judges. Tyrone said he put on his contact lenses and the performance looked worse. Dave let us in on his thoughts when he mentioned that Lieschen can do sex—I mean sexy, on the dance floor. To his credit, Ian von Memerty let that comment slide.

Judges’ scores: D=6, S=6, L=6, T=4 TOTAL SCORE=22

6. Erald Felix and Mary dancing the Waltz

Thankfully, their relationship issues have been sorted out and they are now getting along and have formed another relationship-that of completing each other’s sentences, did ya’ll see that?

Erald looked great last night. He made the Waltz look like it had been tailor-made for him. He embraced the dance-and Mary too- and seemed like the proverbial cat that got the cream. I’m sure his partner will thank Mary for her excellent lessons. Mary was beaming with pride during the dance and I felt a lump in my throat (told ya abt the PMS). The dance was really beautiful and I thought they would get first place for it. Ha!

Judges' scores: D= 7, S=6, L=6, T= 5 TOTAL SCORE=22

I saw a few familiar faces in the audience…and even saw Alice from Days of our Lives..hehehe.

Basadi le Meropa performed a drum and mbila act and the voting session ended. Ion announced, “The first couple safe tonight is….” and I just knew this was gonna be a good night.

The feeling was short-lived though when they announced that the couple who are leaving tonight are……Patricia and Marcel. Seems the find and replace function failed them.
