M-Net To Announce New Reality Show Soon

TARI've recently heard the scoopy news from sources in-the-know at M-Net that they're going to be doing another big reality show this year. Last year Survivor Panama was their big new reality buzz and this year they're going be doing something else, in addition to Survivor 2 obviously.

They wouldn't give a sniff of a clue as to what it is so I've spent the last four days since I heard speculating about it.

One thing I know for sure is that I DON'T want it to be Idols 4. We've already got two seasons of the show running concurrently and having yet another that's guarenteed to deliver more Winkler rubbish would drive us all over the edge forever.

Big Brother 4 on the other hand is a verry different story. Loads of time's passed since BB Africa and everyone's got the idea that you can't just go onto the show and stuff your nose into a book for three months so I reckon we'd get things like orgies, transvestites and possibly even a murder if we were to see another one now.

My only concern about this option is that the Big Brother house no longer exists. The house was built in a studio at M-Net's Randburg headquarters and it's been coverted into studios for other things.

I think it was given over to Neil Andrews and his chubby legged Supersport friends immediately after it was torn down. I want to know who dresses them. Have you seen the eyesore three-quarter trousers and mis-matched shoes him and his crowd are wearing to comment on the cricket?

As far as the house goes, they could decide to build a new Bigged-up version which would be cool.

Another groovy possibility would be if it's So You Think Can Dance. The trouble with it is that it doesn't have enough universal hype amongst everyone to sell itself type of thing.

In the case of Idols, Big Brother and Survivor they were all already a guarenteed worldwide phenomenon when we got them whereas So You Think You Can Dance doesn't have the same global perceptions.

Cat Deeley did say millions of country's are currently doing the show though plus it was extremely popular in the US so it seems to sell itself when a country goes for it. I dunno, there's just something that doesn't convince me it's gonna be it. I think it also has to do with Channel O doing Dance Africa - they might be seen as being too much of the same thing.

It can't be The Apprentice (for obvious yawny reasons) and it won't be The Contender 'cos it would be seen as too sporty. It could defs be The Bachelor starring Gareth Tjasink  - which I'm hoping it isn't. I've lost all interest in The Bachelor after Season 7's Charlie chose that uptight, stubby, miserable nurse who he loathed.

My absolute ideal first prize is for it to be our own Amazing Race. Imagine how amazing (and hysterical) it would be getting our own South African take on country's around the world.

As much as I enjoy the show I've been getting more and more annoyed by how American everyone always is and I couldn't think of anything better than seeing us getting to have all the fun for a change.

I wouldn't even mind if the show was true to the race in every way except instead of racing around the world, teams raced around South Africa. There are two specific things that concern me about why it might not be it though:

1. Out of all reality shows it's said to be the priciest of pricey-pricey to produce. With all the travelling that gets done and crews and resources everywhere and the many long shots from mountain tops, planes and space - it clearly costs a bomb to produce.

2. I don't know one single person who wouldn't enter it which means the selectors would take at least two years sifting through the entries so it wouldn't happen this year.

That said, Survivor's very huge too and they did it so I'm gonna keep my fingers firmly crossed and hooope that this is it.

I trust you agree that this would the bestest? What would you like it to be? If it were something completely different that we've never seen before - how would you feel about it? I ask 'cos I've also been wondering if this is a possibility.
